Title: Mayo break out of Slump?
Post by: nyg on February 17, 2012, 05:00:50 PM
Todd has not made a three point shot since the Providence game on 1/21.  His playing time has dropped, has made some freshman errors, but when in the game he still plays intense defense.

In six games since, he is 0 for 10.

Lets hope the UCONN game is the breakout for the slump.

Wish in one hand and $hit in the other, see which one fills up faster.

I hope he does as well  :)

He will be fine.  He is goign to be a special player at MU.  Let him hit his first shot and he will be off to the races.

And he is 2nd in the BE in free throw shooting at 89.7%.

According to bobbygt at the UConn board, he is the only reserve who sees game time, anymore.

Mayo looks a lot like JJ Redick.

He just needs to go out and bang a nasty chick. Sometimes you just need a slimpbuster.

Mayo looks a lot like JJ Redick.

Mayo already has more than one dunk in his career, however I object, nay I strenuously object.

Mayo plays tough d and Redick didn't start playing d til Orlando

Redick wasn't much besides a 3 pt shooter (shot 7+/game as a frosh)

Mayo is just a natural bball player and I'm guessing by watching Redick play he had too work really hard because he didn't have the athleticism Todd has

Mayo contributed very nicely in his 18 mins vs. UCONN.  Those type of numbers to supplement Crowder, DJO, and Wilson will go a long way in helping this team down the stretch.

And numbers aside, he was a great spark of energy in the 2nd half when our guys were looking a little mentally tired.  He was having troubles finishing, but he was taking it to the rim and getting calls.

Great game from Todd :)

So his first made 3 in the last 7 games was a bank shot.  Gotta love it.  The slump is over.

Well, welcome back, Z.  It's been almost ten days since you've had this kind of post.  I had thought you had gotten an early start on giving up misogyny for Lent.

Either way, I would say ixnay on nasty chick banging.  It's a little hard to focus on your jumper when your crotch itches like a mother.

It's a very real baseball analogy. Ease up on the FryBoy.

He has a great first step and really got to the hole well.  Shot still not falling , but free throws can build confidence.  See Vander ... And fts have started many a run for jae n djo this year

We were looking for a slumpbuster and let's face it the bank 3 is the equivalent of the brown bagger.  Cheers

I like Mayo and hope he has a very nice career at MU. I see little evidence yet of him being a "special player," however.

I guess it depends upon how one defines that term, but most guys with that kind of potential improve during the course of a season and don't go a month or more without contributing much.

Again, I'm hoping, and I do know he is only a frosh (albeit a junior-aged frosh). But I was shaking my head in amazement as others were proclaiming him to be our next superstar and were worrying that he was gonna go pro.

It takes more than a dozen decent games for a guy to even be considered a decent player. It takes something else entirely for a guy to be "special." At least in my book.

Just to be clear I am not the poster that declared him "special".  But I personally believe mayo will be special player too.  By that I mean I expect him to score 1000 points.  Superstar tho I do not see, would be happy to be wrong.  I think mayo will get better n better over 4 years n has a ton of talent n a great attitude

Mayo's shot looks more like a rainbow now than it did when it was going in.
