Title: Deficits
Post by: We R Final Four on February 11, 2012, 10:13:11 PM
Can someone, with more energy than me, please post a running tab of our season's games with substantial deficits--including Cuse, which I thought was down 23 and cut it to 2.

I did not think that we would be down 16-4 today.  Why not, right? I know to expect that, but for the first time this year I was confident that we would get it together quickly-and we did.

Love it,its coming together--cept for those fing inbound passes.  3 bad ones today.

I get just as pissed as everyone else at this poor starts but Ironically the one game we have lost in our last 10 was one of the few games were we didnt get down quickly.

And even more so 2 of our 3 losses in conference were games where it didnt get out of hand at some point in the 1st half.........for us. We were pasting Gtown actually.

and that one game where we could not overcome a first half deficit was at the #1 team in the country.

So for all the caterwauling and teeth gnashing about slow starts, it really has not affected our conference record.

Classic--  The point is that it is remarkable, not 'cmon guys let start off better than we have'. 3 OT road wins by Buzz--remarkdable-and then this year--thats the point.  So, you are not going to post the requested list ?

Never said it wasnt remarkable, just posted the irony to it. Maybe we are lacking the same energy as well.

Yeah, AnotherMU84, isn't researching, compiling, and publishing all requested lists your job.  Get to it!

Seabiscuit, guys ... it is called heart and desire to win even when you are not first out of the gate.

Because I was curious too...

Yesterday was the most impressive turnaround, but I feel that Villanova was the most impressive win, considering the amount of time left and the fact it was on the road. Honestly, DePaul might be the next most impressive, simply because of time remaining and that we were away from home.

The remarkable thing is that even after all of the comebacks, when we get behind in these games, we look so bad doing it that I always get sucked into thinking we are in serious trouble.  At 16-4 on Saturday, I was not at all confident.  When we cut it to 16-11 and settled in though, I felt for the rest of the game that we were going to win even after they stretched it back to 9 a few minutes later.

The only games from that list where I felt confident throughout were the St. John's and DePaul games, even though we were down double digits late in the first half against DePaul.

As mentioned elsewhere, two of our five losses came after taking a 13-0 lead and having a 17 point lead with 13 to go.  Vanderbilt is really the only time we got behind early and never got back into the game.

The factor I note is that these leads all peaked in the first half and that much of the deficit was usually erased by the break.  Of course Vandy was the exception.  We got behind and stayed behind.  It'll actually be interesting to see MU play from ahead at some point.  Might a comeback by an opponent be something tough for our guys to handle?  I suppose the only example so far is Georgetown and that didn't work out too well.

Ken Pom also posts likelihood of winning the game during the biggest deficits with his game graphs.

Nova- 83%
Louisville- 65%
DePaul-65%
Cincy-48% (never had them in favor of winning the game)
Seton Hall- 49% (again never had them in favor of winning)
Pittsburgh- 47% (again)
Providence- 50%
Washington-59%, the play before Jae hit the three, otherwise, he had us winning basically the entire way
St. John's- 15%
Wisconsin- 86%, when they were up 8-3 in the first half

As for Georgetown, he had us winning 92% up 56-39 in the second half.
