Title: 3-Point Line to move back a foot
Post by: NCMUFan on May 03, 2007, 12:49:59 PM

Do you expect this to cause a significant change in style of play and type of players?

This might actually help DJ if he comes back. It seemed a lot of his 3-pointers last year were too strong.

DJ would have to come back for his senior year. This won't happen (if approved) until '08-'09.

my bad, I didn't read it through. I don't think there's any chance in hell DJ will be here for his senior year.

I also noticed they're going to move back the players one further block on free throws.  Could this mean we might see two bounces of the ball on a missed shot before Barro picks up the rebound?

I applaud the NCAA for the first time in a long time.  It's about time.  Although I am a huge fan of the trey, it has become way too easy.

This should help in proving which team is really better.  I wouldn't mind seeing it go back another foot either.

Go Cubbies.
Go Warriors.

It won't matter, in my opinion.  How many times do you see guys get a pass off a wing and drill an NBA range three?  Many people think that moving it back to the NBA range would send percentages down to the NBA percentages.  I don't agree.  There are more good shooters in college than in the NBA.  Although Golden State the other night was changing my opinion.

I didn't see this until just now.

Are you smoking crack?  College has more good shooters than the NBA?

I still feel the 3 ruins the game..., unless we also institute the 5 point shot from mid court, however, moving the line back (should be NBA line) helps a little.

Along with the 5-point line, they could institute three baskets stacked on top of each other. All worth different point amounts.

if by 'ruin' you mean it makes it more exciting than i agree.  How much more would a game suck if your team was down by 12 with 10 left, you have a huge hole to get out of.
Not to mention that when a good shooter at home launches a three and the crowd all shuts up and holds there hands in the air until it drops in the basket and then the whole place goes nuts is one of the greatest sequences in sports.

Yeah, I'll stand by that comment.  Guys like Brendan Plavich would win a 3 point contest in the NBA.  There are just as more good shooters in college than in the NBA.  Think about it.  How did Diener and Novak play in college and not in the NBA?  Simple answer would be they were not athletic enough to play defense against NBA caliber players.  A big part of why they were great college players was that they could shoot anywhere.  When you know you aren't athletic enough growing up to create shots, what do you do all day?  Shoot the basketball.  There are a lot of guys in college basketball who were/are awesome shooters but will never make it to the NBA because they aren't athletic enough.  It's the reason why Dominic James might have a chance to be drafted as a sophomore and Novak/Diener/Diggs/ AJ Guyton would never get a shot.

To say that there are better shooters in college than in the NBA is just a ridiculous comment.

Last time I check Diener and Novak were both in the NBA and eventually will get their shot if they learn how to D up or get in the right situation.

Redd, Stojokavic, Nowitzki, Nash, Kobe, Arenas, Kapono, Reddick, Damon Jones, Barry, Battier, Hinrich, Gordon..etc

Plus the line is 4 feet farther.

Every NBA team has 2 or 3 guys that can absolutely shoot the rock.  The average college team has one or two guys that are pretty decent as knocking down an open 3 (like Cube and Fitz).

The biggest difference is guys in the NBA have no conscience, they will pull up with from anywhere with anyone on them; something you will rarely, rarely see in college.

Anyone who has ever watched both a college game and an NBA game know there is no comparison in the level of play, the pros are just ridiculous.

That is not to say some people don't prefer college to the pros due to the type of play, emotion from the players and fans, rivalries..etc

In College:

Michael Redd- 32% Career
Steve Nash- 40% Career
Gilbert Arenas- 36% Career
Jason Kapono- 45% Career
JJ Reddick- 40% Career
Damon Jones- 35% Career
Brent Barry- 34% Career
Shane Battier 42% Career
Kirk Hinrich- 43% Career
Ben Gordon- 42% Career

With Jason Kapono's career average he would have finished somewhere between 50-60 this year in college.  Of course all of these players became better when they were in the pros, but so would all of the other guys that go to the 300 something teams in D1.
