Title: Rosiak blog -- MU schedule
Post by: PuertoRicanNightmare on April 26, 2007, 09:18:34 PM
Interesting comments from Crean regarding the schedule. I noticed that he directly references fans concerns about previous schedules. It's obvious that season ticket holders were grumbling about the garbage we were asked to pay for the last two seasons.

Good thing people at MU don't listen to lemmings like Marquette84 who seem to enjoy taking it in the shorts via the schedule every year.

UW Milwaukee, another Big East game and a Pac 10 team sounds pretty good to me -- and I'm referring to HOME GAMES (before anybody throws in the Hawaii games as proof of previously scheduled games).

The first meeting I ever had with Tom Crean was roughly April 15th of 1999.  He asked me some questions about the fans, their desires, etc.  I had just finished surveying every season ticket holder we had so I was armed with many answers.

The top complaints back then....

1) Nickname
2) Schedule

And ten years prior....it was probably schedule #1.  Fans bitch because that's what they do.

It's always been an issue PRN and always will be an issue to some fans.  Coaches have to give their programs a shot at making the post season and with the Big East conference schedule (now going to 18 games), plus a game against UW-Madison every year, you get what you get....a competitive schedule that finished in the top 30 in the country this year.  Throw in our financial situation, and it only adds to some of the limitations.

We have a top 25 team, 4 NCAAs in the last 6 years, perhaps our 4 NBA player in 5 years, top 20 in attendance....good LORD.

Chicos -- I understand the needs of the program, but Hillsdale College and Cardinal Stritch? Are you kidding me?

Now, if we can just do something about that nickname!

Wait .. not Exxon .. wasn't it the Marathon Oil team?  Nike All-star .. Around The World Team.

Didn't they have some Wisco-all star team, too .. seeing old players actually gave that an extra bit of interest.

Fans (consumers) will always bitch about a team (product) if you ask them.

I really like my current vehicle. I wish it got better gas mileage. But, I'm also realistic that a vehicle of that age (2000) has its limitations.

I really like gum. I wish the flavor would last longer. But, I know that expecting a piece of gum to last 12 hours isn't realistic.

I like MU basketball a lot. I wish they played a tougher schedule at home, but I'm also realistic about MU's needs to make money off basketball and build up a good record before entering conference play.

PRN, I can't blame you for being disappointed in the schedule... but I think you just have to look at it realistically. MU doesn't have insurmountable hurdles, but there are reasons why the schedule is set up the way it is.

Keep in mind PRN did say "UW Milwaukee, another Big East game and a Pac 10 team sounds pretty good to me" .. amazing the level of defense for the phrase "sounds pretty good to me" garners when the Nightmare speaketh.

.. one other thing that should be in that list .. because +2 BE games, it means -2 OOC games (if you're at the max..?) .. which means two fewer Morgan States.

Truthfully if that's "pretty good" on the schedule front the standards can't be all that much higher for PRN than anyone else. We all love the extra Big East game so we're even there. Everyone has clamored for a major conference opponent since the Arizona series came off the books. I'm just surprised that Wisconsin-Milwaukee is good enough for him. They're a mid-table team from a low rated conference. Sounds just like the variety of buy games we've had in the past few seasons.

I worry that the two new BE games will mean one less marquee home game and one less marquee road game.  In fact I think TC said about a year that was the plan that we would only be playing one traditional OOC Road game unless we were also @UW then it would be 2.

I understand your view, I had to take many calls on it from season ticket holders in the late 1990's...I just don't see it changing any time soon...unforunately for the name change either.   :'(

Chili -- you bozo...do you not understand that people still had to pay for tickets to the Cardinal Stritch game?!?!

Why would anybody care about a crappy schedule if they didn't have to fork over 30 bucks a ticket?! They could play University of Lawsonomy 15 times before the conference starts for all I care. Just don't make me pay for it.

Try to get a handle on the issue before you chime in next time.

No different than NFL season ticket holders having to pay for pre-season games.  Or schools like Cincinnati, USC, etc that forced you to buy football tickets (with UC hoops) or basketball tickets (USC football).  Part of the deal.  You get the good with the bad and yes you will have to pay for them...all.  It's a fact of life that no amount of bitching will ever change.

so, PRN, what teams would you like to see on the non-conference schedule that are worthy of your money?

Sorry, if you want season tickets you have to pay for the season, which includes exhibitions. It just seems to me you want something for free even though it cost Marquette to have exhibition games. If you don't want to pay for then simply give up your tickets and quit whining.

a signficantly reduced price for a non-significant preseason game would be reasonable, in my estimation.

Actually one game this season was free.  They charged for 20 games yet actually had 21 home games this season including the exhibition.

Fair enough, then let them charge EXTRA for premium games like UCONN, Wisconsin, etc....only seems fair

;D

I didn't go to a MU game this past year, and don't have that many chances to see them due to a lack of an automobile, living 3 and so hours away from Milwaukee... and soon to be moving to Texas... Im living right outside of Houston when I go down there... can MU get a series with the Houston Cougars... please  :)  There in Conference USA... could be worse... and that way I could see Marquette play when they go to Houston... in fact any team within driving distance in Texas I would love.

Just enjoy the weather and no state income tax. Maybe you'll get your fix if the Warriors have a tourney game in Texas, otherwise be happy to catch them on the tube.

A team ranked #236 in the RPI (UWM) is fine with you?  Thanks for letting us know the level that you find acceptable.  Now we'll know when to call you a hypocrite. You complan ONCE about a team ranked above #236 and I'll throw "UWM is fine" back at you.

16 of 20 home opponents last season were ranked ahead of #236 UWM.

The sum total of your years-long bitching amounted to just four games last year (oh--can't forget the exhibition--which you continue to confuse with a regular season game).  So five games total out of 21.

I really hope that for guys like you MU comes up with a value based pricing scheme, where they give you Cardinal Stritch and four other games for free, but ding you $300 to $500 for Wisconsin and ND and Georgetown and Pitt.

I'm tired of you singling out the Cardinal Strich game, while never admitting the sweet deal you get for Wisconsin and Pitt and UL and Notre Dame tickets.
