Title: DePaul road win!
Post by: jsglow on January 25, 2012, 08:05:34 PM
They came back from 11 down to win 69-64 at the RAC.  No question that our rival to the south is headed in the right direction.  Rutgers is usually very tough at home with wins this year over UConn and Florida.

Still third to last in the conference.

Beats the days of 0-18 or that year where 1-17 was all about a horrible Marquette performance.  I bet they'll win 4 or more conference games this year.  Give 'em some credit.

In fact, I wonder if tonight was DePaul's first ever BEast road win.  Anybody remember one?

Yes, they have won on the road in the BE.

On Sunday, South Florida handed them their asses at home.  Not hatin', just sayin'.

Rutgers is not very good. Extremely young and immature.

It actually points more to how soft the Big East is as a whole. There is no doubt MU is one of the most talented teams in this conference.

You'll see Cuse, GTown, and MU pull away from the pack in the next couple of weeks and I truly believe it's down to MU's mental make-up in taking care of business and finishing in second place.

This truly is the year to make quite an impact and, hoping against hope, if Cuse somehow trips up a couple more times perhaps MU can snag an unexpected title.

Tonight's results show anything is possible. If the team continues to gel and build on each game, anything is possible going forward. They just need to take care of their own business and not worry about Syracuse or Georgetown.

Any road victory in the BE is impressive. DePaul fans have waited a long time for a little success, good for them.

I know this is forever ago, but as a son of DePaul alumni, I remember going to games as a kid when the Rosemont Horizon was rocking.  The team had the 10th highest attendance in the nation 1985, and consistently drew big crowds throughout most of the 80's, which is impressive considering Chicago doesn't particularly care about collegiate athletics.  Some, though not many, of those fans still exist.

I remember those days.  I actually feel strongly that DePaul needs to find a way to develop a viable on-campus athletic facility.  The logistics of playing hoops out near O'Hare make it largely impossible to garner meaningful fan support, both from the students and the local alumni base.  And without fan support, few 3-4 star players will consider the university.

Sometimes we forget how blessed we are at MU.

Someone on the Louisville board figure out the BE records since the 2005/2006 expansion (this is the 7th season)

http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=17&f=2755&t=8604623

In total DePaul has 24 BE wins (including last night).  Last night was its 8th BE road win.

Added,

Since DePaul joined the BE (including yesterday's game) ...

DePaul in the BE = 24 - 87, 0.216
DePaul road BE - 8 - 47, 0.145

DePaul needs to win.  If they do that attendance will take care of itself.

Ty Corbin, Mark Aguire, Dallas Comegys, Rod Strickland, Terry Cummings, The Meyers, etc. Those were the days.

Whenever i see a corsage on a coach, I think of Ray Meyer.

They certainly are young, and they weren't very good last night, but in the last month they've beaten Florida, UCONN and Pitt (at Pitt by 23). A week or so ago I watched them take Georgetown to the wire (lost by 2) at Georgetown. They played extremely hard and were well coached IMO.

Our best conference win is against a 5-3 South Florida team.  Next best is a 4-4 depleted Louisville team and both games were at home.  I don't think we have proven that we are top 3 in conference as I think West Virginia, Cincinnati and UConn all could easily surpass us.

I think there will be 4 or 5 teams that will differientiate themselves from the rest of the pack.  Hopefully we will be one of the 4/5.  We will need to finish with a winning record against the following group of teams: WV(Away), Cincy(home/away), UConn(Away), Georgetown(home), ND (away) to do that.

Totally agree. Hate to say it, but the Big East is full of a bunch of softies this year. No contest, this league is nothing compared to any other year since MU joined.
