At 12.7 pts and 7.1 boards per game in conf play, Gardner appears to be right at the top of production for bigs...what are the chances he gets an all conference nod by season end?
By the way; I'm in 406; anyone with me in starting a Gardner specific fan section over there especially given how he looks up and to the left (right at the section when marq playing offense on their bench side) before shooting free throws? Thinking it could be called DeDe's kids...for those old enough to know the show bebe's kids...
Just as long as you don't chant "automatic".
So many of us long for "bigs" in the MU program, but I think a lot of us loose sight that we have a pretty good one right now as a sophmore and he only seems to be getting better. Obviously there are some things to be desired, but if you put Gardner into perspective, he's an increidbly productive big guy as a Sophmore.
I just so love having a legit low post player. The team (at least last night) seems to be getting better at feeding him the ball down low. Once he has it, he's very effective at either backing his guy down and shooting or passing to a spotted up teammate or cutter. It really adds another dimension to our offense and its great to see.
Seems like J-Wil can be effective as a high post option too, BTW.

I would say if he keeps that line up, and MU finishes top 4, there's a pretty decent shot he gets honorable mention.
He is improving. I think our lack of depth up front will come back to bite us a couple of times this year. All it takes is a few of quick whistles, or for DG to be having one of his disinterested games and two quick whistles against Jae or JWil and we are in a load of hurt. But this is the hand this team has been dealt and Buzz is playing it as well as he can. But if DG brings it every night, MU can do some damage. Right now, all we have done is win the games we are supposed to in the soft part of our schedule.
Let's not forget their big guy went for 19 and 10. The game is played on both ends of the floor and Gardner still gives back a lot on the defensive end. It's not all him, of course, as Jae is an undersized 4 and the other 3 guys on the floor are smallish guards. I like the lineup with Crowder, J Wilson and Gardner on the floor at the same time, though it means that two of Mayo/Blue/DJO have to be on the bench because I wouldn't want someone other than Cadougan at the point when all three of those guys are playing.

WTF are those idiots chanting that for? His FT% is 74%. What's that, 3% over NCAA average?
DJO is at 76%.
I thought the same thing--did I miss something?
When did DG become Steve Novak?
Automatic is not the term I think of when DG steps to the free throw line.
He's got a good FT % for a big man, but he is certainly no Novak is right....
Why would a home town crowd chant anything during the home teams free throw? Which brings up another point. Whoever controls the video score board shouldn't play "get up and cheer" videos coming out of a time out when we are shooting free throws. Maybe they could find it in them to play a replay instead!

I noticed this as well. Pretty silly.

Man, I just hate that plopping down $80 for two tickets to watch the game live, ensures I'll never see the many replays that TV folks enjoy.
Give me the damn replays. I promise not to run down and threaten the refs if it looks like they blew the call.
by the way - see buzz'a quote reGardner in ESPN article - love that guy!!!!!
He's good," Williams said. "If he could guard a ball screen and lose 30 pounds, he'd be really good. I don't know when he's going to be able to guard a ball screen, or be able to lose 30 pounds, but he has continued to improve and our team has continued to evolve"

A lot of those points were in garbage time. The way the South Florida game was called really favored MU and Gardner. Gardner was much stronger than the South Florida players and the refs let almost eveerything under the basket go uncalled. Help Gardner on offense, but especially kept him out of foul trouble on defense.

No replays suck - might as well stay home and watch in comfort of home with large HD, replays, comfy chair, beverages and save about $250 a game buy the time you add 2 tickets, parking, dinner before and a few drinks at the BC...
yeah, and not hearing the idiots yell "automatic"
