Title: Gunner Kiel
Post by: jesmu84 on January 17, 2012, 07:19:26 PM
Originally commits super early to Indiana. De-commits early this season. Commits to LSU a couple months ago. Was at home packing this past weekend to enroll at LSU for the Spring semester, when he calls Brian Kelly and tells the ND coach he's coming to South Bend instead and begins classes today. Wow. #2QB, #20 overall in his class. Unbelieveable.

The next Jimmy Clauson.

The only question I had, why didn't he choose ND earlier?  Nephew of Blair.  Two brothers were recruited by, and played for, Kelly (one at Central Michigan, the other at Cincy).  From Indiana.  I thought he was a natural for ND.

The kid doesn't like ND but his mom broke down when she realized her kid was going to get an education at  Louisiana State University instead of Notre Dame.  Mom won.

I've heard lots of stories about the biggest influence on his choice of school had to do with the depth chart at the QB spot.

Yes, LSU just sent away 2 seniors, but they have underclassmen ready to go.

ND (Brian Kelly) just showed, in their bowl game, they've got no confidence in anyone on their roster and Kelly dislikes all of them. My money is on Brian Kelly calling Kiel right after the game and asking if he watched. Then telling Kiel that he starts next season if he just shows up.

There's a redshirt freshman Everett Golson who is the odds on favorite to start at qb next year.

Will this work for Buzz?  Call potential recruits after Vandy or the first half of Syracuse and ask if they are watching the debacle and tell them we need them we desperately need their services and they can have all the playing time they want.

Don't think that last week's debacle of a championship game didn't have an impact on that decision.  LSU has also lost two big time defensive recruits since then.

I am not suggesting that anything torrid went on, but random question.

Obviously some from time to time, perhaps maybe often in college athletics, players get gifts, paid, family members get favors...to land recruits.  What would stop stop recruit X, from taking $X amount of money from Y University, then spurning that school, to sign with another?  It's not like the school/booster can report anything, and the recruit will keep their mouth shut.

Also, how prevalent do folks think this is, just in regards to recruits.

That adds a whole layer of corruption on top of the existing corruption... I lilke the way you think!

Kiel, from all accounts, seems like a prima donna who doesn't want to have to compete for a starting job.  Indiana was bad, but Tre Roberson showed some sparks and I think Kiel got the impression he wasn't going to have the job handed to him on a silver platter.  LSU has a pair of promising underclassmen, so there is a good chance he wouldn't start there for awhile either.

Go have fun at the QB graveyard known as South Bend.  I hope you end up the starter as a freshman and end up finishing your career at a garbage school, Dayne Crist style.

"Coach, you abandoned my brothers on two separate occasions and left all of your recruits for dead. Where do I sign?"
-A complete moron.

You mean like Eric Dikerson and how he accepted that car from Texas A&M and then the SMU coaches called him and told him that just because he accepted a car doesnt mean he had to sign with them, the rest is history.

If your not familiar with this story check out Pony Excess, the 30 for 30 on SMU's death penelty

"He did not necessarily have the chest and the ability to lead a program, so you know," he added to applause.

So apparently he does not have a future in lingerie football.

Pretty stupid for Miles to even comment on it.  I know it was to boosters and alums, but not classy.  I expect garbage like that from Bielema, not from Miles.

speaking of bielema, i had to laugh at him crying about Meyer stealing a recruit from UW, when he is notorious for doing the same.

He is well known for that.  I wonder what they thought in the league office when he filed his complaint.  Were they laughing when he hung up?
