1. Jae
2. DG
3. Jr.
Jae. DJO and DG close.
Jae #1
Yeah, he had five turnovers and a technical foul, but Jae did a little of everything.
14 pts...11 rebs...6 steals.
Heart and soul of the team today. Did he even sit the second half?
Ox. made every big basket when we needed one. 3 times he had a 3 point play to knock them back. Fouled out Dieng.
Jae
Jae, he wanted the win more than anyone in the building.
OX killed Dieng
DG
Jae
Stupid T by Jae and bad 3 pt shots.
DG. Big 3 point plays when we needed it most and dominant on Dieng.
17/6/2 and 0 TOs.
Crowder, but Davante is a very close second

bad transition TO's and the 3 ball up 9 with 25 secs on shot clock was terrible.
All 17 pts for Ox were with the game still in question. 7-7 from the line.
Jae. Did everything a senior should, except for the slashed throat move.
I don't know...Jae should get it, but once again he had to go and do something stupid with that throat slashing gesture.
Liked the way a lot of our guys played today. Mayo hit some big shots too. Going w/ Ox, those 3 point plays were huge.

Didn't do real well on the other end of the floor though. Buzz kept taking him out.
Jae did EVERYTHING out there.
Anybody but Jae. The throat slash gesture was pure punk. Embarrassed MU on national TV. Go with the Ox.
It is great having several great choices, but you can't argue with 11 Boards and 6 steals....has to be Jae.
How about a split SOTG...Jae showed senior leadership today and Gardner was key out there in the second half in stopping their rallies.

Yes, including get T'd up and 5 turnovers. Davante abused Dieng. Outscored his guy by 8 pts and Dieng had his way on the glass offensively when Jamil was in.
STOG(Stud of game) that would be the guy who halted all rallies with a 3pt play.
Nothing can stop Gardner except Buzz...

Oh come on... Did you really find that embarrassing??? Honestly people will find anything to bitch about.

Ya that reaction was extreme. But up 51-41 then two UL 3s and a 2 down to 51-49 and Ox answers with an and 1 on Dieng. That was it from there. GAME.
Just embarrassing for Jae. Love that the refs called it.
It showed a complete lack of class. I expect that crap from Louisville, Memphis State, Cincinnati, etc. Not MU.
He did, however, have a fantastic game.

You must be the most negative person out here. Every post in the game thread is negative, and Jae has probably his best all around game of the year, providing the leadership that everyone wants him to provide, and you nitpick.
The guy shot 50% overall and 2/6 from 3...and you are bitching about his shooting?
DG 7-7 on the free throws. Money every time
Basketball, as we all know, is a game of runs. Everytime Louisville started one of their run, Davante Gardner killed it off with three point plays ... and one floater. Some of the shots he put into the basket were incredible.
split it between them...both of them were key today.

I would be supportive of that...for DG's little floater alone.
The Ox always seemed to be the guy who made the play when we needed it - the floater, the follow, he's a pisser!

Im providing support to why Davante was STOG. He didnt turn it over, fouled out their big time shot blocker and HALTED EVERY RALLY. MADE HIS FREE THROWS. I guess I need to use caps considering Davante had success in all departments where ppl usually bitch after games.
sounds like Buzz may have found his aircraft carrier in Gardner...if he keeps improving like this every year, can't even begin to imagine what he'll be like his senior year.
Jae - despite some ill advised shots and the T. He played 37 minutes of intense basketball and brought home a double double. DG played great in his 18 minutes, but I'd go with Jae.
1. D.G,
1 (a). Jae (throat slash was idiotic -- I know he's excited and emotional, but score three and then immediately give the opponent a chance to score 5; Louisville didn't need the help)

He only played 18 minutes and limited on the defensive end of the floor. And not to be nitpicky but Dieng fouled Jae twice and Jamil once if memory recalls. DG wasn't the only one to foul him out.
Buzz is the stud of the game. We came out horrible (again), but he kept the guys in the game. Good win over another so-so team. Hard to see Louisville making the NCAA tournament this year when you see who they have left on their schedule.
2-4 in conference play and easily could see them finish 8-10 which will keep them out of the NCAAs. 9-9 might not do it either. At Seton Hall, at WVU, Syracuse twice = 4 losses probably. Can they beat UCONN at home or Cincinnati on the road? They're going to have to.
Good win by MU
We take DJO for granted. At least put him in your top 3.
Ox gets the nod. Top of class in sportsmanship and number of nicknames.

FWIW, the headline on ESPN reads "Johnson-Odom leads Marquette past Louisville"
But I vote Gardner. Huge three-point play after huge three-point play.
I love the way Buzz used DG today... 17 pts in 18 mins. Kept him fresh and viable when in the game. Crowder had a more all around impact on the game therefore he gets my nod as SOTG. I thought everyone played their role perfect today minus the first 5 mins or so. The boys played well and the coaches coached well today.

This is true but hes also the one hyped by ESPN and announcers like crazy so it evens out. Guys like Jae, Todd and Ox dont have the national name

SOUNDS LIKE A PHOTOSHOP SPECIAL.
Totally SICK what DG did in just 18 minutes. The guy gets more "And one's" than I have seen at MU in a very long time.

It takes a very special player to have the strength and skill to draw the foul, find a way get the ball in the hoop, then knock down the free throw.
1. Jae 2. DG 3. DJO
DG no question
Looks like the decision's been made. Nice to have these kind of disagreements.
I would give it to Jae BECAUSE of the throat slash move. Louisville is or should be in everyone's top three most hated teams we play on an annual basis. I loved it, laughed hysterically when they showed it and rewound it about 10 times to watch it again. He's ana emotional guy, and Louisville has broken our hearts a ton of times over the years. He just hit a shot to put us up 16 and remove all doubt. Plus ithis just addsfor more fuel to an already intenses and heated rivalry. It goes in the pantheon of Buzz walking it out, them coming back from 18 in 5 last year, Jerry Smith's prayer bomb, etc. Love it.

right with you on this. +2
Just got home - looks like the polls are closed. Loved DG's big offensive plays, but Jae was the man at both ends. Heart and soul of the team today. FWIW, Homer and Mac agreed.

I'm still saying split it...but that said, it was GREAT to see someone on this team show that kind of emotion today (even though I thought it was a stupid gesture to make). Also, Gardner and Crowder are starting to create a nice 1-2 punch on the inside for us.
Just noticed the "Top of the class in sportmanship" tag under Davante's picture. Guess Crowder was eliminated because of the "T". Silly, IMHO.

Silly and completely unnecessary. You can name DG the "stud" without giving Jae a backhanded reprimand.
I didn't go through this thread to add up the votes, but the SOTG poll thread has been open for a lot longer than this one in the past. Seems the mods agreed that Jae's T cost him any shot at it.
Just sayin'
Gardner pounds his chest and flexes in opponents' faces all the time and screams And1 as much as anyone on the team. Don't get me wrong I LOVE it, but he gets a pass while everyone else gets ripped on for similar things.
Just got done watching the game after successfully avoiding the score all day. My vote would have gone to Jae. Had a decent game throughout, but he was immense late when it came to winning possessions. I know, 5 TOs sucks, but 6 steals and an assist make up for it. And he fouled Dieng out, no matter how ticky-tack that one was.
Can't complain too much about DG, though DJO could've got it, and I even could have seen an argument for Mayo and his 3/4 from deep off the bench. All around good game for us.
As I went through this thread, at the time Ox was named SOTG for the Looserville game, Jae had 15 votes, DG had 12 votes, two wanted to split the vote and there was one vote for Buzz. At the end, Jae had 19 votes for SOTG and DG still had 12. I'm not counting those like HaywardsHeroes and others with multiple posts.
Now, maybe it's me. Maybe I'm a little f-d up maybe. But I'm just trying to understand the process. Is it a vote among those who chime in or up to a mod(s) to decide regardless of what the masses say?
SOTG is not a democracy. The mods chose who they want based upon our input.
Voting for Crowder was the equivalent of writing in "Warriors" in MU's pick the nickname contest. His votes were not considered, I guess because the mods felt he was out of line with his end of game gesture.

JC was also chosen quickly after the last game. It's the mods discretion.....sometimes that is best.
Anyhow, Gardner might just lead the team in SOTG this year as just a SOPH.....over the likes of DJO and Jae! Who would've thought that possible before he stepped on campus? I can't wait to see the big fella the rest of his 2+ years here! 8-)
My vote went to DG. Looked like Bob Lanier out there yesterday. Of course he's limited on the high ball screen. Buzz is learning how to harness his skills. Man he was awesome in and around the offensive paint.
