12 of the top 25 lost this week. A couple more play today.
#3 UNC loses by 33 at FSU for the worst UNC loss in the Roy Williams era.
#5 tOSU lost to the Illini and plays IU this afternoon
#6 MSU lost to Northwestern
#7 IU lost to winless (conference) Minn and is at tOSU this afternoon
#11 Georgetown lost to Cincy and has SJU this afternoon
#12 UNLV lost to SDSU
#13 Michigan lost to Iowa
#14 Louisville lost to Prov.
#16 Virginia lost to Duke
#18 Kansas State lost to Baylor and Oklahoma
#21 Gonzaga lost to St. Marys
#24 Seton Hall lost to South Florida
I can't remember a season with this much insanity across the board. When's the last time we've seen an unranked team (IU) beat a #1 and a #2 within a week or two of each other? Or a Roy Williams team lose that badly? Or Seton Hall be ranked?
What a bizarre start to the 2011-12 season.
Who knows, perhaps Murray State will win it all. Thats why I love college basketball so much, the Davids get the chance to slay the Goliaths. Not like college football which is an excusive club.
We've still got 10 more weeks until the real madness begins. Plenty of time for more craziness.
Well, to be fair, when ranked teams meet, someone is always going to lose. So it's hard to get down on a UNLV or Virginia for losing. But 10 top-25 teams losing to unranked opponents does seem inordinately high.

SDSU is not ranked. So of the 12 ranked teams that lost this week, 11 lost to unranked teams. Virginia losing to Duke is the exception.

They are ranked #22 in both polls. Not only ranked, but ranked ahead of us.

Missed that, so 10 and 2 versus ranked to ranked loses.

Baylor is ranked too

Baylor is, but Oklahoma isn't, and K-State lost to them as well.
It has been this way for a long-time. Some days all ranked teams win. Other days a lot of them lose. If you look at the first round of the ncaa tournament. Either Thursday there are paractically no upsets(based on seeds) and then Friday there are a lot or vice versa. If you are the higher seed you want to be playing on the day there are not upsets. If you are the lower seed (9-16) you want to be playing on the day there are upsets. I have been doing my company pool since 1988 and I cannot remember a year when one day there were a lot of upsets and the other day practically all the favorites win. Generally, 9 seeds beat 8 seeds. I guessing over the last 10 years 65% of 9 seeds win in 8-9 game.

umm, yes, there are days with upsets in the tournament. Not sure what you are trying to say there. This year is not normal though. There have been many upsets of teams that were supposed to be dominate. Sure, that may happen in the tourney regularly, but for it to happen on a weekly basis during the year, makes this year particularly crazy.
Pretty much a coin flip between 8 and 9 seeds.....9's have won 53.8% since 1985

The majority of those are road losses too. CBS sports guys did a story yesterday on all the road losses this weekend. Basically just saying that these sort of things happen. Conference road upsets are more and more common as the talent pool continues to grow. That's why its so important to take care of business at home. Any type of road win is a good one, nowadays more so than ever.
