Title: SOTG
Post by: GGGG on January 14, 2012, 03:01:32 PM
Junior.  9 assists with only one turnover.  3 steals.  He just made it go.

Kudos to Jamil who I think played his best game of the year.

Agree on Cadougan.  Terrific floor game, played with smarts.

I think you're right.  Junior had 2 TO I believe but still a great game.  DJO close with those shots in the 2nd to increase the lead and Jamil did have a nice game too.

Plus 4 rebounds and a huge steal at the end.  Vote Junior.

Mayo - 7 boards and 9 pts.  Wilson 7 pts, 4 boards and 2 blocks.

Junior was a huge factor in the second half in helping us go on that 16-3 run.

Junior gets my vote.   6 assists in the 2nd half while puking up real chili near the bench.  Seriously, he really had the offense in control and made GREAT decisions with the basketball.  Also pressured that freshman pg from pitt which helped the run in the second half.   DJO made big shots but that is expected from your senior scorer.  Crowder was great in the 2nd half but not so much in the first.   Wilson gave a nice shot of energy and athleticism and I think we will see him get better and better as the year progresses (and he is only a soph on the floor).

Junior stirred the drink today....he is sotg.

The other problem with DJO was the four turnovers.

DJO ... his back-to-back threes were the game.

Homer and Mac gave their MVP to Junior.

I think there is a good argument for DJO.  I think we sometimes seem to take him for granted.  My vote is for DJO.

The Junior that was on the court today looked a lot like the Junior we saw towards the end of last year.

I knew someone was going to say something like this.  No other player would get sort of response.  So pathetic.

DG had a game almost as bad as Blue's.   Blue committed turnovers trying to force the ball to Davante.

They stopped play and he came out of the game, walked up the way to the locker room with a student manager in tow carrying a trash can.

What as the initial problem with DJO? Did I miss something?

Great to see the votes for Character Zero.  I would have voted Zero.  When he plays 5 and can board they can press and play tougher d.  I love DG and am impressed by how much he has improved defensively but if I were the opposing coach I would get him involved in a ball screen on every possession.  This was JW's first D-1 level performance.  Pretty good sign going forward if he can keep it up.

Agreed that he will improve and played well today but this was not his first D-1 level performance, in my opinion. He had 11 against Nova. He is playing out of position and looks to be getting comfortable inside and at the FT line.

That might be fair.  My viewing acuity was not at its greatest on New Years Day.  I wouldn't base a judgment of Zero's performance on points, though.  Coming into the season, I saw DG as the offensive center and CO as the defensive center.  Now that it has been officially announced that CO is out, MU has to focus on replacing his productivity.  DG has improved his rebounding and you can tell wants to be the starter, believes he is the starter and has taken to the challenge of being the starter.

Zero has to prove that he can be the defensive 5 that CO was, in Zero's own way.  He has to be exceptional at defense and boarding.  He has to be bigger than their biggest big.  And be an energy guy.  That's what he did today.  They said after the game that Pitt had a +2 rebounding advantage per game, biggest in the country.  I would say Zero's work was a big reason Pitt did not have that advantage today.

BTW, can we update his photo? i think that's from his freshman year and he looks totally different now. since he's got 2 SOTG's i think he deserves a better pic...
