Thank god Laphonso Ellis is calling the Xavier game!
Ox off to a great start -3 TO's and a foul.
Vander Boo.
Why do we give teams confidence to start the game?
And we're pretty pedestrian on the offensive end, not much active movement to attack the zone.
Gah, I hate zones.
Looks like Vanderbilt DG.
I like Ellis actually. The woman announcer, ack.
Another terrible start. Hopefully it doesn't take 20 minutes to come alive. Crowder playing abysmal defense.
Had a transition opportunity and took ourselves out of it, then missing after 5 chances. Not an inspiring job.
Hopefully we'll get 1/2 a game from the team today. Still early. How will Buzz adjust?
Pretty ugly so far. Need a turkey.
So much for putting in a full 40. Crowd sounds lifeless.
We really suck
I'm starting to think any team that can play good defense will give us trouble, because no team is so bad that they can't make a good percentage of the easy shots we give them.
Blue is never going to learn. Makes the same stupid ass high risk passes in traffic.
why do I get this feeling that Ashton Gibbs is going to have a career game?
When we are patient against the zone, we have been fine. When we make two passes and take an NBA three, we aren't going to do well.

How about MU's defense?
Double team again, leaving guys wide open for 3's.
Oh, they have 10 points in ten minutes. Gibbs almost outscoring MU.
Wilson Is stepping up. Nice to see.

That is my point. Everybody is going to score against us because of the easy shots we allow, so if they play good D we are in trouble.
Liking that Jamil Wilson is taking his open looks. Fortunate we're only down 6 right now. Zero FT attempts so far. Settling too often.
Wilson for three? Ok. Don't keep going to that well. We simply need to take better care of the ball. Very sloppy.
Mayo, Blue, and DG all are playing poorly.
Jamil is the only Warrior without a turnover so far. ::)
This team is too talented to have as many bad spells as they do.
Psych problems?
I think we've settled down a bit. Playing better D, getting some stops. Need a few shots to drop.
You want to get the ball at the foul line against the zone. When you get there, just shoot it. Stop trying to force the ball into the low post

Lifeless on O - lots of standing around.
Pitt has done a great job slowing down pace and getting back on defense.
jae sucking again
Blue has some value at the point, but otherwise is useless.
Is this game on TWC?
Alright...two solid possessions on offense. Got into the lane both times.
Attack the rim!!

True. He should play backup point.
And DJO did. Foul these fools out. Get it into a FT shooting match but we need to limit the silly fouls on our end.
Under four mark and no Crowder again. He sits with two fouls. He is one for six and has missed three wide open threes.
Lets hope he gets it together at start of second half, MU will need him to win this game.

Offense doesn't look good, but getting some shots to go down. Getting stops the past few minutes has been key-they're turning it over or getting no second chances.
Nice job of settling down. Keep the D on, loving the full court press and testing Epps a little.
Cadougan gets absolutely sandwiched, no call, 3 for pitt. rrrrrrrrr
Junior gets out worked for loose ball......gibbs drills 3
sloppy first half in terms of ball control
Come on Junior grab that offensive rebound. Good grief, that lead to a three by Gibbs.
Was a two point game at 3:22, then DJO missed free throw and Mayo miss front end.

Lots of weird stuff going on when MU plays in the first half, and just not this game.
Nice final shot there. An NBA three attempt by DJO.
Come on boys.....
Another terrible half of basketball.
9 turnovers in the first half and we're only down by 5...lucky. Better ball control and we could be up by 2 or 4.
There is no reason we shouldn't win this game. We haven't played a worse half besides the Vandy game. Pitt looks terrible. Can't believe we aren't down more.
This team is so frustratingly inconsistent...hard to watch at times and so enjoyable others. Nice to see Jamil Wilson provide some energy...everyone else seems flat. 9 turnovers????? MU should be burying this team. step it up in the second half (after all we are due one good half per game) and this should be a nerve jarring w.

Were you surprised? I think I have seen that play to end the half about 5 times this season.
Turning it over and not getting a shot opportunity on offense, giving them two opportunities on the other end. Got to fix that to come back.
And ugh, Buzz, WHY call those end of half timeouts if you cannot coach the team to execute any better with it? Buzz's special teams are "special" alright.
I'm curious to know what was said in that final timeout before the end of the half. Was it "Throw up a three the first chance you get no matter where you are on the floor?"

Well, you call it because you will just end up losing it but I agree, you can call that play live on the sideline with " DJO, CHUCK A THREE BUDDY!"
Crowder had about the worst half I can remember from him....terrible shots, turnovers, bad defense, silly foul....just awful. Now, he will probably come out in the second half and collect his typical 15 points and 7 rebounds....maddening.

Let's hope Jamil comes into his own, Junior remembers he can penetrate and occasionally hit the three, and Vander is at his best NOT shooting the ball but doing the other things.

Vander had an especially bad half on offense...3 turnovers and deferring every open shot at the rim....attacks the basket and passes every time...no chance to pick up a foul or make something happen. His defense was okay. Agree DG had a brutal first half.
I liked the ESPN half time analyst suggest that Marquette needs to remember that even if they are struggling on offense that does not affect their ability to play on the other side of the court....defense intensity is lacking today.

The first 10 for Davante weren't good. At the 8:00 TO he had no points, no rebounds. He ended the half solidly with a few rebounds and a couple points.
And Blue was horrid that half...worst half of the season.
Need to get back to the basic principles of attacking the zone. Get the ball to the foul line. Make good decisions from there. If no one comes and gets you, shot the 12 footer. If they collapse from the wings, kick it. If the middle guy comes up to challenge you, attack the rim. Around the perimeter, reverse the ball, attack the seams off of a ball reversal. Nice job, Junior.

There's a lot of truth to that.
DG has to stop getting out of position on D. Two trips in a row, Pitt as been able to work it underneath because DG is out near the three for some reason. Keep this rally up. Nice offensive series.

Right before our eyes.....
When we learn to do this for 40 minutes......
Any way we can stop Gardner from getting stuck at the top of the key. Sees to result to a layup every time.
Davante and Jae coming to life a little.
That over extending MU defense is killing them. Gardner has to be 20 feet away from the basket doubling up, leading to two easy Pitt buckets. He cannot get back in time because he is slow. Just don't understand the defensive scheme.
Being that, offense looks better and Crowder has returned.

okay...in the bonus with 13 minutes to go...hit free throws and this could go our way really quickly

Lol. Sure understandable. But that was the worst first half I have seen in a while. Probably since 2006 first round against MSU. I think we didn't score a point in the first 10 minutes or so.

Settling for threes for no reason. I guess that's one way to stop the work it in inside and throw it away.
epic choke job. We are bricking everything.
might be 2-4 in conference soon.
The offense simply is not as good without Junior in there. He is back now. With Pitt in the bonus, perhaps a little attacking of the rim is in order instead of pull up 3's.
Get into the bonus and take two threes with plenty of time on the clock. Booo
Honestly Buzz. How can we not be utilizing the bonus??? Next guy who jacks up a three without a paint touch is on the bench.
Was DJOs 3 point % his sophomore year a fluke? I am not sure how you go from hitting almost 50% to 37% and missing wide open 3s that you can step into.

Should be feeding it inside to Davante or else taking it to the basket. No reason not to take advantage of the bonus for the rest of the game.
Even if they get to line they have to make them. 4 for 8 so far, with Mayo missing a frontend one/one.
3 for 14 from 3.
Anyone else enjoying Anderson dancing (if you can call it that) on the bench?
One of the saddest things about this game is that Pitt is not that good and there have been only a couple moments where they look like they want to win this game. We should be smoking this team.

I don;t understand why Vander wasn't guarding Gibbs. I am not Blue's biggest supporter, but I would have liked him to have a shot at defending Gibbs.

Not Gardner's best game, but it was obvious early in the game that Pitt was going to try and take him out of the game. Early on we looked sloppy and lost. As the game progressed it looked like we did a great job of adjusting and using that determination to not let Gardener beat them to open up the game from the outside.

I would say the Vander bashers are realists. The guy has no offensive game. A kid who can simply play defensive and bring up the ball should be coming off the bench. There is always next year Blue. Until he learns how to finish and make better decisions, he will be a marginal player.

The funny thing about this is what was the difference between this game and St johns. Really nothing except he played fewer minutes and thus his stats went down. He frequently makes the same bad decisions and frequently misses easy shots. Today, he had 3 TOs and he missed a easy layup. Its the basically the same thing game in and game out.

For me, Mayo had a great game for a freshmen. Removing the names from the jerseys, I thought he had an average game. He made some bad decisions and missed some open shots but made some plays too. Took a couple of charges (which actually nullified his turnovers).
Mayo had rebounds. He played decent defense. He had points. Mayo should be playing over Blue. That is the point. The huge upgrade in offense that you get with Mayo outweighs the slight downgrade in defense. I think maybe today's game is a sign of things to come.
7 man rotation, 200 minutes. Taking foul trouble out of the equation, I expect that both Blue and Mayo will play 26-28 mpg going forward. So why bag on the guy?

That would be fine with me. Who starts has never really mattered to me as much as who plays.

7 man rotation, 200 minutes. Taking foul trouble out of the equation, I expect that both Blue and Mayo will play 26-28 mpg going forward. So why bag on the guy?
Yeah, the depth of this team has proven not to actually be there. With Otule hurt, and three DNPs, there isn't much leeway.
Juan, JJ, and DWil helped us tread water against St. John's. I have a feeling going forward that unless there is foul trouble or a specific matchup opportunity, we will not be seeing them do much other than cheer. Buzz has a history of shortening his bench. Man, we miss CO.

Maybe it's because I am not from wisconsin or something. I don't put him on a pedestal. He is like any other player. And I am just trying to be realistic about his play. If he puts up 6 point, 4 boards, 2 assists, and 2 TOs, people claim he had a solid game even though he might go, 1-4 FG and 2-4FT and he missed two layups. This is a poor game IMO.
Why bag on the guy? It's my opinion. His board isn't simply here so that MU fan can $hit rainbows. I just hope Blue get downgraded a bit and becomes a pure backup point this year. Maybe another summer in the gym will do the trick.

I think almost all coaches shorten their bench as the season progresses, it just makes sense as most teams only have 5-7 guys who can honestly contribute. teams like Cuse, with 10 high level guys, are the extreme exception.
Buzz is notorious for tinkering with this all the way through the year, so i wouldnt count out any one of our 3 cheerleaders growing into some type of back up role like EWill did last year.

We get it, you don't think Blue is very good. Do you really need to post about it time after time after time after time? Some people don't think he is as bad as you do and no amount of posts are going to change anybody's opinion.

I'm not from Wisconsin, either. I see him as another young player who is a work in progress. Like JJ. Like DG. Who also stunk today. But we need him, so I am not going to crap on him.
Did everybody know Mike Kelley is a former University of Wisconsin? It was like that phrase was sponsoring today's broadcast.
Was at the game and just reading this thread for the 1st time. A couple of comments:
1. Some questioned why Buzz did not challenge the 3 call on the foul. He was complaining about it and trying to get the officials to correct it. One official turned and motioned with his hands that he was a foot beyond the arc. Buzz did not push it after that.
2. The time out late in the shot clock. DG was blocking DJO's way to the basket. There was 10 seconds on the clock. DJO dribbled in space for 3 seconds. Buzz starts to call a TO. The officials make the call 2 seconds later, when DJO makes his move. Can't fault Buzz. At the time he was making the call, it seemed like all MU would get is a long, contested 3 attempt. DJO got free after Buzz started to signal TO.

Geez lighten up on VB. We're going to need him against L-Ville. He's a young kid and could use some positive motivation, not all this negativity. (Channeling Donald Sutherland from Kelly's Heroes here!)
Positive waves, Moriarty. Positive waves.
I expect Blue will realize must dedicate himself to redesigning his jump shot. Given his physical skills, it's realistic he can accomplish this over the off season and become an offensive force his junior and senior years.
