Strange twitter exchange between Kendrick (@ken_second2nunn) and Dodds (@marquettehoops)... Kendrick asking about how many commits Marquette has for 2012/2013.
My question is why wouldn't he know this from his interactions with the coaching staff, etc. Thoughts? Did anyone else notice this?
Based on my experience with Twitter, there is not a single athlete, college or pro, that has discovered Google yet. You'll see stuff like this a lot
How hard is it to ask Steve Taylor?
Does Steve Taylor know?
I'm guessing the question suddenly popped into his head at midnight so calling up Benford to ask was out.
Maybe he wants to know if there's a spot for someone else?
How does he not know about the MUScoop scholarship table?!!?!

Nunn is class of '13. He would presumably be asking on behalf of someone else if he's inquiring about schollies for '12-'13.
How amazing would having him and Burton in the same class be? I wouldn't mind getting another player off that Simeon team if he is inquiring.
Getting Nunn here would be fantastic. Getting Nunn AND Parker here would be almost unfathomable - I mean top 5 recruiting class unfathomable. (Likely not going to happen, but I can dream right?)

lol...maybe we should have Rocky add him and Parker and then forward Nunn the link.

Assuming you mean Jabari Parker, that would have to be the #1 class overall. MU would have the number 1 player in the class, and two other guys who are consensus top 50 in Burton and Nunn (who I've seen as high as 18 in the class). I don't think there is any shot at Parker, but I do think MU lands Nunn, and I think Buzz oversigns to add a top 75 big. Don't know who, I just feel Buzz is due for a breakthrough on that front.
He did mention in his tweets he got an unexpected message earlier from someone he hadn't talked to in a while, you could reasonably assume it was an assistant who told him we were booked up for 2013 now. Which I believe we technically are with CO 6th year now.

"Reasonably assume"? No.

Correct on the bolded part, wild speculation on the first part. CO waited to have surgery until they were sure that he'd get his 6th year approved, otherwise he would have tried to play this year.
OR maybe he can graduate early and enroll at Marquette in the 2012 class. Just sayin'

I think Parker is a complete pipe dream, but getting Nunn sure would be awesome.

6th year is not approved and will not even be looked at by the NCAA until Chris completes his 5th year.
I am sure Benford is relaying information regarding the scholarships. If Nunn wants to come, there will be a scholarship available for him.
If Jabari wants to come, there will also be room made for him.
MarquetteHoops should have responded the same way.

Boy talk about jumping to conclusions. That exchange lead him to ask @MarquetteHoops if there are anymore scholarships left?
I put the over/under at "transfers or no shows" between now and the 2013-14 at 2. If Nunn wants to come here, there will be room.

No...they shouldn't be making assumptions to recruits. They simply answered his question. The coaching staff can answer those for him.

It's actually the Big East that approves or disapproves as long as he meets specific NCAA criteria (which he does.) IMO, it will be rubber stamped.

Disagree. But I understand the situation. Another reason why if a recruit isn't coming, get it over with already.
Don't care what the math may or may not say, there is a scholarship available for Nunn and if his friend is as good as him, then there's two available.

This is false.
I wasn't guessing.
He may have received "unofficial" word that it would be approved, but unless something changed in the last year or so, you couldn't officially apply until all eligibility had been used. Regardless, he will be here in 2013-14. I feel confident in saying that.
It would be great to have Nunn!!!
Can someone paste the Twitter exchange here?

Please explain how this is even possible. I understand that it's essentially impossible, but pretend that Otule has a Pujols-like recovery from the knee surgery and, in the spirit of Mbakwe, demands to come back to play a few games in the NCAA tournament. He would, if I'm not mistaken, lose his eligibility for the 6th season.
This is why decisions aren't made before all the facts are settled. Marquette might have gotten an unofficial wink and nod that Otule likely will be granted the 6th year, but I'm almost positive that a formal approval won't occur until after his 5th year. If nothing else, Marquette and Otule have to fill out a formal application requesting a 6th year. That application can't even be filled out until Otule officially misses the rest of the season with his injury, which is a necessary condition for him to be eligible.
If I'm missing something, please fill me in.

Then why was he asking about 12-13? Unless he interpreted it as class of 12-13 and @marquettehoops misunderstood.

Nope, you're not missing something. Buzz has always been good at doing his legwork on stuff like this and with the clearinghouse. Like the guys said earlier it's impossible to get the official waiver mid season, but they waited to have surgery until they knew exactly what would happen when they do apply.
That being said, regarding the knee injury, you can always play on a hurt knee or not. If Otule wanted to play this year (or if he wasn't going to be granted a 6th year) then he would play.
So if this is Chris' fourth (senior) year academically, next year is his fifth (senior) year eligibility-wise, and the year after that is his sixth (senior) year if he is granted after his fifth year. He will probably be in grad school by the second semester of his fifth year or beginning of his sixth.
The ultimate question is: when do we honor him at Senior Day?????????? :D

Can a recruit contact a member of the MU staff or is there a certain "blackout" timeframe for contacts?
Or is it that the MU staff cannot contact the recruit unless it is in a certain timeframe.

Yes! At least I have one conspiracy theorist on my side! This is the thread (re-worded)
1. Nunn - Weird, some people texting me I haven't heard from in a while. (Recruiters)
2. Nunn 5 min later - How many commits does MU have? (I thought they wanted me, Recruiter told me MU was booked up)
3. MUHoops - 1 commit
4. Nunn - Oh, so they still have space for me, what about 2012?
5. MUhoops - 4
6. Nunn - Oh (Recruiter must think I'm 2012).
Yes, you need a jump to conclusions mat for it, but it's plausible.

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty confident that a recruit can always call a coach to ask a question. The rules are designed to prevent a coach from initiating contact with a recruit except during specific times.

Recruits can contact coaches at any time. The blackout is in relation to the coaches. As is the maximum contact per week requirement solely tied to the coaches.

All MUHoops did was directly and correctly answer how many commits are coming in 2012 (4) and 2013 (1) , which is Nunn's graduating class. Why would the recruiter think Nunn is a 2012?

Thanks. Interesting that a kid can just pick up the phone and call. Did not know that, thought it was just during specific times.
For those interested, as questions continue to arise, here are the NCAA Bylaws. The Hardship section is Article 14.2.4 on Page 157 of the document (to find the page go to page 169 of 439).

Maybe Nunn was more worried about how many people they had coming in ahead of him for playing time purposes. Hence why he asked about 2012.

Here is the specific Bylaw:
13.1.3.2.2 Telephone Calls Initiated by Prospective Student-Athlete at His or Her Expense. Institutional
coaching staff members (see Bylaw 13.1.3.4.1) may receive telephone calls placed by a prospective
student-athlete at the prospective student-athlete's own expense at any time, including before July 1
following the prospective student-athlete's junior year in high school. (Adopted: 1/10/92, Revised: 1/10/95,
8/14/02, 12/12/06)
You can see the entire Bylaw on the link in the post I made above.

Seeing as we're all boosters by the letter of the law, how about we don't...
Just in case you need a refresher on what you can, and more importantly cannot do on twitter: http://www.anonymouseagle.com/2010/12/15/1877988/better-know-a-marquette-booster-you
I think he's having fun with twitter. It seems like he wants to get his followers as high as possible.
He also tweeted this about an hour ago.

This makes sense since he committed to A&M and then backed out.
Would Dodds be considered a booster or media? I mean I guess by definition he is media but he is running a Marquette website so I would think that would get a little dicey
