At least 9-4 going into last five games. Discuss.
Time for a 10 game winning streak!
7-3 at best
probs 6-4. We will have letdowns.

Come on, what 4 teams will we lose to? Maybe Louisville and Seton Hall?

No clue. I had use beating Vandy and LSU so im not the right guy to ask. UL is still good. And we are do for a letdown and road wins are never gurantees especially for us.
But if we lose AT HOME to Seton Hall...good god stick a fork in us.
My thoughts on the next 10...
St. John's: They did just beat Cincy on the road, but coming off two losses, we won't be overlooking anyone. We should win.
Pittsburgh: Their D sucks and they can't get to the line. But they'll break out of this losing streak at some point. I'm not sure if I want them to beat Rutgers Wednesday or not...they don't need any momentum. Another win
Louisville: On paper it's our toughest game. And it's Loserville. On national TV. Either we'll break their hearts or they'll break ours. B@stards.
Providence: They woke up against GTown, but still lost by 9. Must-win road game.
South Florida: At home? Their size could be problematic, but they just aren't very good. Win
Villanova: During 'Nova's 3-8 slump, what surprises me most is that they have lost 6 of those by double-digits. They will start to play better at some point, hopefully in February. Not positive of a win.
Seton Hall: Of all the games we shouldn't lose at home, this one worries me most. Pope and Theodore are solid. This is no gimme.
Notre Dame: Lost in our "taking on #1" hype, did anyone else notice the Irish beat Louisville on the road? And mini-Harangody has put up 4 double-doubles in their last 7 games. And they're unbeatable at the Joyce. ND on the road could be Syracuse's first loss...that's probably a loss.
DePaul: Yeah, they beat Pitt, they aren't as bad as they once were, but this is another must-win roadie.
Cincinnati: At home we have to get this one...but with no Otule, they're a very tough match-up.
Wins: St. John's, Pitt, USF
We'd better win: Providence, DePaul, Cincy
We should win: Villanova, Seton Hall
Flip a coin: Louisville, Notre Dame
Anything less than 8-2 and I'll be disappointed, but I have a lot less confidence after seeing Otule's done for the year. If we're 6-4 during this stretch, I'll be looking ahead to next year.

+1
I think we beat Louisville or ND, but drop Providence or Pitt somehow.
If this team plays up to its potential, 10-0 is very plus I have to imagine buzz has their attention after the last four games. I think 7-3 or 8-2 are most likely. Outside of Syracuse, anyone can beat anyone in this conference this year. Having our toughest games at home in this stretch should help us out a lot.

S Hall and Cincy are the wildcards. Wins and we are in the top half, losses and we are in the bottom half. This is going to be a wild ride in the BE this year. USF and Prov look like only potential 'sure wins' to me. Look at the standings on the left and there are 8 teams whose message boards are saying that they can be in the top 4 of the BE--including UL and MU. Need to right the ship vs STJ.
I really believe 8-2 is very much attainable. It won't be easy, but as Pomeroy predicts, we are favored in all of these games. Would love to start it off with 3-0 here at home, first things first. Then go kick PC's ass while I watch sipping some delicious Dunkin' Donuts coffee.
People gotta get off Seton Halls nuts. They are always a tough team at home, who have they beaten on the road? If they beat us at our place that is a very bad loss.
Im much more worried about Pitt(wont discount Jamie Dixons history) and Cincy(bugged the sht outta us last year).
St. John's - Beat Cincy on the road for their first road win of the season, but after the last two games, I can't see them stealing one from us at home. Buzz will have this team ready.
Pittsburgh - another home game, and its obvious Pitt isn't the same team this year. Should be a win.
Louisville - another one at home and while Loserville always gives us fits, but just as the media was talking about how Syracuse was going to use last year as motivation to beat us, I can see Buzz using this game last year as motivation.
Providence - road game that doesn't scare me
South Florida - this would only scare me if it was in Tampa.
Villanova - If we win the prior 5 games, I can see this being a loss, especially since it will be at their on campus arena. That said, this Villanova team is hard to get a read on and may very well come down to their freshman and how they respond.
Seton Hall - Win over UConn was impressive until Rutgers beat them at home as well. Is UConn a poor road team this year? Still an impressive win, but the UConn win isn't that big anymore. With this being at home, crowd will be a factor.
Notre Dame - Only road game in the next 10 that really worries me...that said, this years ND team isn't the same as previous ones.
DePaul - Impressive win against Pitt, but Pitt isn't the same team this year, and DePaul always has a game every year that they pull out of nowhere. As long as we play our style, this will be a W.
Cincinnati - Only home game that really worries me, however, the loss to St. Johns yesterday shows they have weaknesses (a love of the 3 point shot) and can be beaten.
Let's be realistic here. I see us very likely going 5-5 over the next 10 games. We Need to be better but the Big east teams and style of play will wear us down a bit. Then there's the BE tourny...........
We make the Big Dance but another 8-10 seeded team and record a couple early wins before we get sent home again......
Realistically, not through rose colored glasses......

Please name the 5 teams you believe we will lose to in the next 10 games. Here is the list:
STJ (home)
Pitt (home)
L'Ville (home)
Prov (road)
S. FL (home)
Nova (road)
S. Hall (home)
ND (road)
Depaul (road)
Cincy (home)

I just don't see this. Cuse is the only team clearly above MU. First 30 minutes of GTown and last 20 minutes of Cuse showed that MU would roll every other team in the conference playing that way.
Taken individually, it's easy to poo-poo it. Taken as a collective 50 minutes of the last 80 they've played, there is evidence that they can play at that level. I'd suspect to see them more at this pace then what we've seen the last few weeks.
In the end, I cannot see them outside the top five in this kind of conference this season. It would be a major disappointment if that happened but I think the odds are largely against it.
If we go 5-5 over the next 10 games, I may have to be talked out of going for a ride in the garage. I think 8-2 can happen. Nova is really having a down year. LV and Cinci are the two scariest, IMO. HAVE to get a win @ND.
Nova is having a down year, and fortunately for us we won't be facing them in their barn on campus...thank god for the Wells Fargo Arena.
Anything less than 8-2 during that stretch will be incredibly disappointing. Even the final 5 games after that are very winnable. As bad as MU has looked at times over the past couple weeks, they should still be looking at a minimum of 13 conference wins.

I acknowledge that I took sentence out of its context, but this caught my eye. Isn't it also true that the last 10 minutes and first 20 minutes of Georgetown and Cuse, respectively, showed that MU can also stink it up with the Depauls of the world?
Because this team is a collective headcase, I could realistically see them anywhere from 5-5 to 8-2 in next stretch.
I think with our team it is very difficult to pick the games were going to win and lose. If Nova is having a dramatic down year we didnt do too good of a job beating them by 4 pts at home. For most of the first half we played great but the only thing that we are consistantly doing is having long spurts of bad basketball with limited shots contested and good looks. Im just trying to throw it out there, if Nova is having a down year and we are somewhat confident playing on their campus what else are we sure of? I agree anything less than 8-2 would be a major disappointment. I say we win one of the coin flips and lay an egg on a bad one.
I don't believe any road game is a gimme for us.
I think we split those four road games (Prov, ND, Nova, DePaul) and go 5-1 or 4-2 at home which means 7-3 or 6-4 in the next 10 with 7-3 the most likely. I also think we're more likely to go 8-2 than 5-5.
I'd rather want to know what our record will be against the zone D.
Yancy and Herb Pope and other bigs camped underneath with athletic wings are going to test MU's true offensive skills in the halfcourt (which has been lacking except for the beautiful 13 or so minutes of the 2nd half of the Cuse game).

We attacked Georgetown's zone well in the first half of that game too. Pretty sure GTIII switched away from it because of how ineffective it was. Not so sure zones give us the problems many people think they do.
I think we go 7-3. All of these teams are inconsistant. We play good, they play bad we win. We play good, they play good it is anybody's game. We play bad and they play bad, it is anybody's game. We play bad and they play good we lose. No way to accurately predict these games. I expect to beat Pittsburg and lose to Louisville, but it would not surprise me at all if it ended up the exact opposite.
OK, I think we can have some serious challenges with the following games. Especially if we don't "shoot the lights out" that night.
Pitt at home. They might have lost a couple and not be the team the national people thought but they are still athletic and can beat us if we don't show up that day.
Louisville at home. The Cardinals are always a challenge for us and just might be the best team in the Big East. Very athletic.
N D away. Team coming of age and we have our problems on their court.
Nova away. They'll want to even the score on their floor.
De Paul away. Should really be a "home" road game but we gave them their first conference win of the season there last time. Remember?? Gotta show up and play smart. They, too, might be coming of age.
Would LOVE to go 8-2 in the last ten but don't think we will. Really like Buz and he gets the most out of his guys and they play hard, but have their limitations which will bear out in a tough, long conference schedule. We don't really shoot well and aren't particularly strong in the middle. We are a very nice team but not a top 15 club............

So you think we are going to lose to Pitt, Louisville, Notre Dame, Villanova, and DePaul. I'm not going to say any of those couldn't happen. Sure, they all could. But I doubt all five will happen. Honestly, I think that SHU is a bigger threat than Pitt, 'Nova, or DePaul. Even on our own court.

It's a real tribute to Buzz's coaching that anyone can talk about this team going on a 10 game win streak in the Big East and not be considered in lulu land. We'll probably finish fifth in the Big East with, at best, the eighth best team from a recruiting standpoint.
I don't "think" we are going to lose to the teams I selected but I think they are teams who can cause us some trouble along the way. Great teams go 10-0, 8-2 and I don't think we are a great team. A very good one but not great. Are we better than last year's team? Not sure, but don't think so. We have our weaknesses and need some definite improvement in some areas, for sure.
Am a great fan and would like great success but am trying not to look through "rose colored glasses" at this team and evaluate it as it is and what we have.
If I, or anyone else here, was better at predictions, we'd all be in a different line of work, for sure.
This team's fun to watch and plays in exciting games... let's enjoy that....
Gonna win some and gonna lose some along the way.....
Enjoy the journey, not the destination.
You said we will very likely go 5-5. You were asked which five teams we will lose to and that was your answer. Now you are saying you don't think we'll lose, but could have trouble? Which is it? Will we go 5-5 with those 5 losses, or go 7-3 with a couple tough wins. I don't think anyone is saying we'll get 8+ wins with an average victory margin of 25, but saying that we're going to lose to Pitt and DePaul and saying we'll have trouble with Pitt and DePaul are completely different things.
I personally think we go 8-2 or 9-1. I think we lose at ND and slip up in another (probably Louisville or 'Nova). But I do think we beat Pitt, DePaul, and Seton Hall. Probably all by 9 or less, but I still think those are games we should win.
I think we go 5-5 down the stretch but exactly which games we win and lose is impossible for me to even try to guess. I said the 5 games I chose would be "very challenging" for different reasons but I in know way can guarantee a win or loss, or even a record over time. It's just a feel I have for having the seen the team play at the BC and on TV, Buzz's style and the type of team we have.
We've just lost 4 of 6 and I don't see us getting red hot over the next ten games, period. our team has limitations that get exposed in the long. tough Big East schedule.
I am not right and you wrong for how we feel the stretch is going to go. Just our opinions, which can be different, which is OK. That's what makes participating here fun.
Like I said, if any of us were spot on with our predictions we be in a different line of work, for sure.
I'll be there tomorrow night and see how we do..............
Bump.
Good call on 8-2, but a touch pessimistic.
axaguy failed miserably.
Kudos to those who picked 8-2 and 9-1. To think we didn't have Gardner for half of those games as well. Incredible accomplishment.

Very true, but my knack for pessimism should come as no surprise ;D. At least I didnt name the teams wed get beat by.
But actually brew your picks were pretty impressive. Not only were you right about the only loss but you said Pitt, Hall and DePaul would all be troublesome and less than 9 pts( Only DePaul wasnt but they gave us a scare for a while) and UL/Nova were probably our closest slip ups....especially Nova. So good call.
Now, How we gona do in the next 5 so I don't have to worry about it to much :)
Credit where it's due, copious - 9-1. Never would have thought it could happen with no center - maybe all that practice Buzz got being small a few years ago helped. BE coach of year will prob be Brey, less likely Thompson, but Buzz deserves to at least be in the conversation.

Nice job Brew. I think on another thread you also said 14-4. I, for one said 14-4 really? We are going to have to get big production from guys playing out of position, bench, etc.
Well, hats off to you, even though you were off on our 15-3 BE record.

Thanks, appreciate it. I felt good about the 3 game homestand to start it and thought we may lose @Nova and @ND. It's great to actually be 1 game too pessimistic and see MU #2 in the standings.
