Title: Top 4 in BE?
Post by: Dr. Blackheart on January 07, 2012, 09:53:22 PM

So WVU, UND and Seton Hall?  Sorry to the naysayers but MU, after a regroup coming back home, are right in it with a favorable schedule upcoming.  Still see a top 4 finish as all MU is going to do is get better and more consistent.  Really need a focus on D to get it done.

Pomeroy has us winning the next 10. It may change, but the lowest chance is Monday against Louisville (61%).

Damn, now I have to figure out how to disarm that time-bomb I put under my bed!

We may very well be.  We are pretty good at times.  We just have to replace the unspeakable stretches with average or eve  slightly below average ball and it'll produce a winning BE record without a doubt...I can see an off half, but the first half against Vandy, last few minutes against Nova, last 13 against GTown, and first half against Cuse were disgusting, shameful, embarrassing, pathetic, noxious-smelling, excrutiatingly bad.  It's not "have our ups and downs", it's much much worse when we go rotten.  Just have to figure out how to turn those adjectives into average, a little off, sluggish, flat and we're in good shape.  Have the superlatives that described the first 27 Wednesday and most of last 20 today apply to entire games and we're a very very good team.

With the Syracuse game already updated and factored in, Marquette's predicted finish on KenPom has them in a 3 way tie for third.

7-3 at best in our next 10.

6-4 most likely because we will find a way to lose one we are not supposed.

It would appear Coach Williams has figured out the rotation and made most of the necessary mid-season technical corrections.

It is now up to the Coach to even out the play of the team. That is, the Warriors cannot continue the wild swings of being either high energy humming birds, or asleep at the switch sloths. Coach Williams and the team need to become energy consistent.

Otherwise, the Warriors are on the right track.

If we lose one we are not supposed to, we go 9-1. We'll be favorites in all of our next 10 games.

That said, Louisville, ND, and SHU are the three I see as the most dangerous. Have to think 'Nova will put together a couple good performances as well. There are stumbling blocks, but we'll find out if this team can beat the teams they are supposed to beat in this stretch. This reminds me of 2010. We were 2-5 before a winnable stretch, coming off a pair of losses, one in a game we should have won, and the other on the road at Syracuse. That year, our mighty mites went 9-1 in their next 10. If we can do that again this year, we'll be fine.

  • We know Cuse and Gtown are ahead of us
  • UL has lost two at home.  UC loses at home tonight.  UCONN has lost two in the easiest part of their schedule.  Pitt and Nova are on a free fall.

MU is in a pretty decent spot.

You win at home and split the road is what you want. The key is to maintain focus throughout the 40. They need to learn how to step on the opponent's throat. They haven't done except against the lower tier cupcakes.

Oh, that's what MU is going to need?  To quote hilltopper, "DOOM!"

If Buzz ever takes a timeout to slow down the momentum of the game like after Mayo's three against GTown, I'll personally call for his resignation. The boys should be flying at all times, regardless of how much we are up on a opponent.

I know a lot of us (me included) look at the way we lost some games and think we will not do as well as hoped in the Big East this year.

But you can't just look at us.  The Big East isn't as strong this year.  Cuse is clearly better than us.  Other than that, we can beat any other of the fourteen teams at home.  That includes G'Town... we will beat them on March 3rd.

I think we go 7-2 at home this year.  Though 8-1 is not out of the question.

On the road UConn, West Virginia, and Cincy look tough but I really believe the other games are winnable including Notre Dame.  Let's say we lose all four though, that leaves us 5-4 away.

That's 12-6 which should get us in the Top Four.

Everything we are going to need?  No, offensive consistency is obviously an issue, especially with the 1st half turnover rate yesterday.  However, despite what many including you and I would like to see in terms of a change of defensive philosophy (and that ridiculous 2nd half at Gtown where MU allowed 12-13 two point field goals with 20 of those points in the paint), Buzz made great defensive adjustments yesterday.

Considering the twelve 1st half MU turnovers led directly to a 15 Cuse points, I thought the defensive effort was the least of our issues.  Fingers crossed for more continuity and cohesion here...which considering that MU is still #25 in KPom on the defensive end, provides some hope from the DOOM as they adjust to losing CO.

I hope for 7-3. Having lost 4 of the the last six games, it is tough to tell what direction this team will take. This upcoming home stand should be revealing. either we get on a roll or it will be a long season.

I still see 12 wins on the schedule (11 more).  Other than SU, the BE is wide open this year, really a crap shoot.

The team I'm really interested in is Seton Hall.  From what I have seen of them, they look like they may be for real.
