Title: senior leadership
Post by: DCWarriors04 on January 07, 2012, 01:34:28 PM
If we're going to win today (or have any sort of sustained success this season) Jae and DJO are going go need to become better leaders. More I think about our 3 loses, the more I see a disturbing trend of lack of leadership on the court at key moments this season. Plus, some of the recent comments from an assistant about how the team doesn't know how to play well together tells me that our 2 seniors haven't done enough to pull this team together, especially post Washington after we lost Otule.

i agree completely with the need for senior leadership.  DJO and Jae have to become more vocal and push the others to play better.  However they must lead by example also.  When they both go missing for large parts of the game it is tough to lead.

Is it possible that Buzz rotating players so much early on makes it hard for a team to pull together?

Jae and DJO are shooters, not leaders. All they want are their points. There is no coach on the floor, and it shows. At least two and probably three freshmen have to see significant minutes next year if we are to be decent.

Jae is by far the leader of this team but he does need to get through to these kids like Jimmy and Zar did.

DJO is Robin to Jae's Batman: flashy but not a grinder.

And Buzz is the Joker

I'm not sure I'd call Jae our leader. He's vocal, but his antics and complaining about calls isn't the kind of vocal leader we need.

Yeah, after thinking much more about it, he CAN be a leader. Likewise, DJO isn't as vocal as he should be to be a leader. (I wonder if that has to do with how he talks.)

This team is begging for someone to take that position on...someone like Jimmy and Zar who would tell his teammates, "I'll put you guys on my back, but you have to do your part."

Nobody is that person so far.

Jimmy was by no means a vocal leader like what you describe above.

Not at all. That was a big knock on JFB actually.

The guy on this team with leader DNA is Cadougan.  Unfortunately he doesn't quite have the game to back it up.
