beyond horrific. RIP, prayers
They are reporting over 20 dead. Not good. I am sure we will get more details as time goes on, but early reports had an early shooting and then more later. It seems like the University didn't do a good enough job locking down the campus once the first shooting occured.
I am sure the picture will get clearer in the coming days.
I am a Marquette alum but my family has lots of ties there and I am a native Virginian. My sister is currently a student and has stated the university screwed up badly. I hope the entire college and national community has the Hokie Community in their prayers.
ABC is reporting the death toll is approaching 30......this is a true disaster.....
Worst shooting incident in US history.

yup. 41 yrs after this, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Whitman
This week is infamous in history...
Monday April 19, 1993 - WACO
Wednesday, April 19, 1995 - Oklahoma City
Tuesday, April 20, 1999 - Columbine
Monday, April 16, 2007 - Virginia Tech
Saturday, April 20, 1889 - Hitler's birthday
Even more in April:
April 14, 1865, Lincoln assassinated (died the next day, April 15)
The Titanic sank on April 15, 1912
Good research.
Can sum it up as: Week of April 14-20=not good.
Not that it's anywhere on the same level, but Tax Day is April 15th too (most years anyways).
Not shooting, but worse school massacre ever...
The Bath School disaster was a series of bombings in Bath Township, Michigan, USA, on May 18, 1927, which killed 45 people and injured 58. Most of the victims were children in second to sixth grades attending the Bath Consolidated School. The bombings constituted the deadliest act of mass murder in a school in U.S. history.
(of course, none of that holds a candle to the Beslan massacre in Russia, Sept 1, 2004 when 396 people were killed.)
Just horrific, today, though.
With its simplicity in mind, I have no idea how this sort of thing doesn't happen more often.
Man, listening to the nightly news .. wow. Just shockingly unreal interviews of guys sitting in class, having a guy pop in a kill people right in front of them, reloading, shooting more. Those students have a long road ahead of them.
I was eating lunch with my friend when we heard this... just shocked, and if the shooter was a student, really nothing can be put in place to prevent this, except stricter gun policies, which always ends in nothing happening
Wow .. watch NBC tonight .. the murderer sent a big packet of video, pictures and documents to NBC in New York between the first and second shootings. You watch it, and you realize how mentally ill he was. Beyond sick. Shockingly scary.
.. The other item about this whole episode .. what can you do? People had alerted authorities .. he was marked as dangerous to others .. he wrote violent plays .. people even spoke of him as a potential school shooter for crying out loud. Yet he walked around free.
If tomorrow, there's a guy with the exact same background, with the same violent writings and people scared of him .. what the hell can you do? Best case, it seems the only thing they could have done was kick him out of school. Which of course, could also push him over the edge.
Until he snaps, it would appear you're just living with landmines in your backyard with nothing you can do about it.
