Title: After Tomorrow's Game...
Post by: JTBMU7 on January 06, 2012, 09:48:26 AM
The schedule really opens up for MU. I only see a few really tough games (Louisville, UCONN, SHU(?!) and GTOWN) left and I'd be more confident in our ability to win some of those as they are either at home or against teams with flaws. It seems like, outside of Cuse, we've worked through most of our toughest matchups that we all knew would give us problems (long, athletic, etc...)

I think Buzz's teams usually get better as the year goes on so if that comes along with a slightly easier schedule, then that could equal a lot of wins. Even if we lose to Cuse we could still walk away with a 14-4 or 13-5 conf record and potential top 4 finish, which would be great after a 1-2 start. Not saying we won't lose a tough road game at ND or WVU, but there is reason for optimism after Saturday...

It is foolish to assume any BE game is a given, regardless of opponent. We will have to battle for every win. If this team ends up 14-4 I would be stunned.

How dare you? MU will be lucky to win more than 2 of the games from Jan 11-Feb 11!!! The season is over! And a chunk of sky just fell on my head!

not assuming anything, just saying that based on the schedule it's a little more favorable than it has been in terms of matchups. The opportunity is there to win a lot more than we lose in the last 2 months... we'll see if we can execute.

You just don't know with this team in this league. We could very well go 0-2 against Pitt and L'ville at home, in which case we're a bubble team. We barely beat a mediocre Nova team at home. All of a sudden the games against Seton Hall, USF and DePaul aren't automatic. I'm guessing 9-9 and an eight seed.

Agree with this, for sure.  Have to admit, I sprinted to the Wiki to look at the sked the rest of the way after Saturday.  The only really worrisome games are the ones you listed, The Fighting Karen Syphers & Seton Hall at home, UConn in Hartford, and I also am not looking forward to @ WVU, @ Nova, and @ ND.  I think this team could get to 12 wins, but 13-14 would be a bit optimistic.  More likely they'll go 11-7, get a 5/6 seed?

I think it's safe to downgrade 'Nova from mediocre to bad.  They stand at 7-8 right now and really havent proven they can beat anyone. For right now, it's looking like they might only pick up about 5 more wins this season.
