Title: The sky is falling, the sky is falling
Post by: real chili 83 on December 30, 2011, 08:08:43 AM
Last night was painful.  But.....

The sun came up today.   ;D

Let's go beat the piss out of Nova.  Then Gtown.  Then, you know who.  Remember, we beat them TWICE last year.

In two weeks,  hopefully this will feel like what can happen to a 14 and 2 team when they have an off game.

On other posts, lots of talk about similar, or worse blowouts.  How about we talk about blowouts like the "Novak" game against UConn, or the '83 blowout of ND at the ACC.

GO WARRIORS!!!!!!

The sun came up today? wow... you must not live in Milwaukee. Meteorlogically speaking.

Actually, it's pretty crappy here too.  Snow on the way.

I fully expect to beat Nova. We match up well with them. However, if we lose to them the sky will be falling.

Actually after reading the posts here last night, they sky already fell and not even an undefeated run to a NC can save us now.

It's all over.  Sorry to break the news to you.

Season checklist
(x) Non-conference near-miss against inferior opponent (sky falls on Scoop)
(x) Non-conference stinker to inferior opponent (more sky-falling)
(x) Non-conference loss on big stage convinces board MU not ready for Big East
( ) Unmentionable conference loss
( ) Road Game we weren't supposed to win
( ) Late surge
( ) Top-half Big East Finish

Nothing to see here, folks...

Fallen! agreed, we are toast for the season. Absolutely no team leader.

Awesome. I think we should have some fun and turn this into a prediction thread.

Unmentionable conference loss: 1/21 at Providence
Road Game we weren't supposed to win: 2/18 at UConn
Late surge: Win 8 of 9 to close out the regular season
Top-half Big East Finish: 12-6, t-3rd

It really is how you evaluate your team against the Big East composition. When we did our preseason predictions, my predictions were generally much lower than the other posters. I would have taken 11-2 non-conference before the season started. I expected to lose to Wisconsin, Vandy and one of the Virgin Island games. Which would be 10-3 and was concerned that somehow we lose one other game and finish 9-4 like last year. So I am happy with 11-2.  However, as the season goes on you get a feel for how good or bad other teams are. I certainly did not think before the season started that LSU was good. St John's is where I thought they would be. Notre Dame without Abromitus is about where I thought they be with him. Georgetown who we play twice is much better than I thought they be. Pitt is much worse than I thought they be. I expected to lose to Pitt and beat Georgetown twice. Now I believe we will beat Pitt and lose to Georgetown twice. A healthy Otule would have a hugh impact against both of those teams.  I do not know what to think about Cincy. West Virginia is good, but not a team I fear. Seton Hall could be a problem. Rutgers beat Florida last night. South Florida and DePaul are not very good, but Buzz has managed to lose to them in the past when we should not have. Louisville is good, but the question is how good. I do know we do not want to play them when our confidence is down. I do not think Villanova is very good and therefore expect to beat them in our opener. Beat them and we finish at least 9-9 in conference. A loss to them would take my expectations down to 6-12.

With all due respect, it is not a question of pre-season expectations. It is the sad fact that the Warriors seem to be getting worse, not better. Some of this can be put on the unfortunate injury to Mr. Otule. By the fact is that the team, and a number its individuals are playing progressively worse with each game. Why? This fan has no idea. Yoo hoo, Coach Williams!

Have you forgotten that other than Wisconsin we are now playing the highest level of competition we have faced all year?  Of course as the teams get better and better we are not going to look as good as when we were playing the cupcakes.

This game reminded me of that first round NCAA exit against Michigan St. where we couldn't make a basket for most of the first half.

They had an off-night... they won't have shooting night's like that very often.  If they made the open shots that they were missing or the many free throws they missed, this game would've been a close one.  Crowder was 0-8 to start the game, and missed a lot of free throws.  Combine that with DJO's poor start, and that's what happens.

How many decent teams have fallen behind by anything close to a 35-8 margin at home this season?  People are acting like this is a common occurence, and I just don't think that it is.

And the 17 pt loss was really much more than that.  The game was not that close.  Vandy was on cruise control for most of the game.

+1.  Hopefully we bounce back Sunday.

Falling, indeed.  We're "all the way down" to #17 in pomeroy calculations (http://kenpom.com/)(#24 offense, #25 defense), and #16 in Nolan Power Index (http://warrennolan.com/basketball/2012/npi)

It's just embarrassing that our team sucks so much that there are at least 15 teams better than MU over the course of the season so far.  I'm thinking about not being a fan any more, I hate being a bottom dweller of the top 20!

and - the trend of playing poorly - did not play well against Norfolk State, UWash and UW-Milwaukee (despite being wins) and played very poorly at LSU and at home versus Vandy.   UWGB and Nor Colorado were pretty good games.  Even the UW-Madison game, if Wisconsin shoots decently, that could have easily been a loss.   This team has not played well in 5 of the last 7 games - does not look good going into the Big East.

Sunday against Villanove at home will be very telling.   A solid win, they have a shot at a decent Big East record.  A loss and I think you are looking at sub-.500 in the Big East as how they are currently playing poorly...given

I agree the game Sunday will be very telling. However, I do not think a loss equals a sub .500 BE record. A loss would be very disappointing, but I would not make that call with 17 games remaining.

Ah, you have seen others use the term "hoopin", not me, others.  I wonder why they would use that term?  On a thread that someone brings back from the dead.  Hmmm.  Call me out if you like, but your rep precedes you.  Not an attractive one, but one you have earned.

Whatever is falling when we play Nova, lets just pray it doesn't hit Gardner this time, and if it does, lets hope that the Refs call a foul this time!

Hoop, this is totally different. This is bringing up a past topic with newfound relevance. What you do is refuse to let an argument die when the rest of the board (except you) has moved on. Again, this is a perception you create for yourself. It makes you look petty and as though you only exist to snipe at others.

From your threads and other posts, I feel that's not the case, but at the same time, it's blatantly obvious what some others seem to think of you, and that is 98% your own doing.
