Trying to find a silver lining. If you take out our horrible start, after getting down 35-8 we won the last 27 minutes of game time 49-39. By the time I picked up the game after the Rutgers game ended, we were already finished but played about even from there. With even a mediocre start by us this would have been an interesting game.
So, just to point out something positive. MU "won" the second half 35-30.
Unfortunately, the team forgot how to play basketball in the first half and lost that one 44-22.
7 for 33 in one half won't happen often. At least I hope not!
edit: merged the two topics - Jacks and I were thinking the same thing. This got out of hand early. After that it was an "ok" game.
The other thread asked why we play bad on national televised games (which is not true). What you're saying here is we knew we were not national televised and played like crap until they switched to us and then we played well!
It's all Florida/Rutgers fault! Missing O'Tule (the preferred spelling here), lack of size, inability of Vander to finish or any of the other excuses posted tonight was not the reason.
I feel better now.
Our worst losses have been nationally televised because for some reason ESPN seems to have little interest in showing the whole country that we can beat Mount St. Mary's by 50+. It's not rocket science.
The reason we play bad sometimes on national TV is because we're playing good opponents.
I agree. It was very apparent that MU was just waiting for the National feed to kick in before starting.
To win you must make baskets period. We shot terrible last night from 1 foot to 30 feet. We were lousy shooters. We need players that can score.
I think it is a little unfair to Vandy to say we somehow 'won' the second half. I would think that their players might have lost a bit of their edge after building up a huge lead. Bottom line, we were never competitive last night and we never got close to making them nervous.
There is no good news here. Undisiplined offense and sorry defense in a big game. Why aren't we getting better, even w/o Otule? How did we win anything?

Agree. Look at the flip side - are any Vandy fans upset they "lost" the second half after winning the first half 44-22? It's tough to keep focus after getting that big lead. If anything the second half was also a victory for them because they made sure their lead was never threatened.

Yeah, it's almost as if up by 30, and able to score at will, Vandy wasn't that committed to playing defense the rest of the game.

There absolutely is! It's over ;D

You sound like Lovie Smith. I think the winter break had an affect on us. I'm not sure how many days the team got off...thoughts
I agree. Shocking lack of energy and intensity. You don't expect to see that out of Buzz's squads. A lot of bad shots. It looked like Buzz was subbing to try a guy who would play hard and intelligently and couldn't find anyone.
THAT WAS AN UGLY LOSS. YOU CANNOT SUGARCOAT ANYTHING ABOUT THIS GAME. INJURY, SHOOTING, DEFENSE, COACHING, INTENSITY... OUCH....
....I saved 20% on my car insurance in 15 minutes by switching to......ah, never mind. We sucked. We lost. Nobody died. On to 'Nova.

AHHHHH!
WHY ARE WE ALL YELLING?! LOUD NOISES!!!!!
MU shouldn't see Tim Higgins for a bit.
