That picture is clearly misidentified. It's broad daylight! Marquette defeated North Carolina in the evening.
I suspect that picture was taken after the semifinals.
Obviously the semi final not the final, it was night and it was raining after the final. The picture in the Journal after the fianl was taken at about 6th and Wi, one of my friends was prominent in the picture with his beverage and is now the CFO for a Fortune 500 company wonder if his boss would like a copy.
I reember going to the airprot to greet the team and they had just started construction on the origional parking agarage, had been only a surface lot preciously, and we parked in a mud field and got stuck trying to leave.

Couldn't have been 6th and Wisconsin. That's Gesu and Johnston Hall in the background. Gotta be between 11th and 12th on Wisconsin.
The picture that appeared in the Journal the day after the championship of the run to the lake on that Monday night was taken at 6th and Wi obvioulsy the above picture is on MU campus. I assume by the attire that this is 77 not 03. Us more mature alumni are saying the above picture could not have been after the cahnpionship game since it isn't night time and likely was after the semi final game which concluded in the afternoon unlike today when the semis start at 4:30 or 5.
Plus most of the running done by students in '03 was down Wells street, not Wisconsin.
I sprinted down Wisconsin so that is not entirely true.

To clarify, it is CLEARLY not 2003 in that photo -- but I raised the question the run in 77 may have coincided with making the Final FOur (and probably the championship) because those games sometimes end during the - but some here would probably know.
2 guys in the picture are wearing "marquette '79" shirts. maybe that is the grad year or maybe that picture is from 1979 instead 77
I don't know when that pic was taken so...I'll leave it up to the graybeards! :P
I know that 1994 (Sweet Sixteen) was down Wisconsin as was 1995 or 1996 (NIT).
By the way, I found that picture on the back cover of the latest Marquette Magazine. You'd think they'd do a little research.
The Marquette 79 shirt was a shirt you could buy with any graduating year on it, in 77 the available choices would have been 77-81. I don't think this picture was taken in 79 since that was my senior year and somewhat forgettable from a basketball standpoint. We were beaten by DePaul in either the 1st or 2nd round, Toone trew a baseball pass that went OB and totally changed the momentem of the game in DePaul's favor. Have to agree that is poor copy editing by MU to identify the piacture as happening after the chanmpionship game.

Wrong. Wisconsin Ave was completely shut down from about 13th to the Lake. I would know. I was there ;D As for Wells St., there were a number of students doing keg stands at the corner of 16th & Wells outside Angelo's, under the supervision of some of Milwaukee's finest!
As a 2003 Run-to-the-laker, my route was up 16th from McCormick to 16th & Wells, down Wells, across Schroeder Field, past under-construction Al McGuire Center to 12th and Wisconsin, down Wisconsin the rest of the way.
about any run to the Lake. See, I was at the Omni in Atlanta at the time. :)
