Title: Without DJO...
Post by: Clam Crowder on December 17, 2011, 04:38:08 PM
Jae is playing like he thinks he's a superstar, but now we can see he is just Robin...taking wayyy too many shots from outside. I hate how he is playing, and I hate these stupid lineups Buzz is going with. This game is way closer than it ever should be. If you're not disgusted you should be

We are getting a little stupid here in the second half. I liked the 1st half and I agree on Jae. I was harsh on him against Washington as well. He hit the winner but boy does he take some stupid rushed 3s. No doubt is he our 2nd best player, but hes gotta be more patient.

Right on cue hits a 3

Take it easy. Everybody thinks MU should win every non-conference game by 40 points. Up 17 points against a tournament team from last year.

Jae took a couple of questionable shots, but I'd rather him be aggressive if anything.

The team defense tonight hasn't been what I am used to seeing...3 pt defense is nowhere close to where it was against UW, and I laughed at that as well

Nice pass by Gardner..he's played a pretty good game.

I don't think Jae has been that bad. He probably had to take more shots just because the younger guys on the team needed some pressure off them today.

Our team D has been real solid tonight in the halfcourt. We have gotten lazy on some rebounds though. Northern Colorado is a great shooting team. Early they got no looks and were 0-4 on 3s. Then we got up big and they started chucking. They shoot well even from the line.

90-67. AHH, MU should have been up by at least 60 by now!!!

The guys got out of sync for about five minutes in the 2nd half, it wasn't a big deal. They've made nice adjustments after the 12-minute media timeout.

So this is what we are bitching about now, that we did not beat NCU by 60?

I guess when we're 10 - 0 the haters have to find something.

That was sarcastic. I agree with you.

19pts, 11rebs. I'd give him the green light almost every time.

I like everything he does, but he shouldn't be 8 three pointers....He is a post player, I love what he does in the post. If he wants to make a three once in a while he can go ahead and do that, but he is taking more threes than twos right now. Today he took 8 3 pointers and only 5 2's.

sometimes you play down to your level of competition.  i am a glass half empty guy, but Northern Colorado was just plain awful.

Sure, we played down to our competition but N. Colorado was not awful. According to Kenpom they were better than 6 teams we played in non-conference last year, and are better than all but Wisconsin, Washington and Ole Miss so far this year. So out of the 9 teams we have played they are rated the 4th best on Kenpom.

Milwaukee, LSU and Vanderbilt are also rated better than N. Colorado so they were right in the middle as far as our non conference opponents go.

Agreed.  We just made them look stupid.  With our best player suspended and our starting center injured.

Think about that.

+1  We're better than we've been in years.  Deeper, too. Undefeated.  Enjoy the ride and stop whining.

Hoops, while they are young and make some mistakes, NCOL is not awful.  MU actually played about 30 minutes of really good basketball.  It's true that for about 4 minutes at the end of the first half and about 6 minutes during the second half we played poorly.

I agree that Northern Colorado was a pretty good team.  We were just that much better.  I would like to see Northern Colorado play Wisconsin.

+1

I would also add that the guys had final exams all week, with a big road game looming on Monday.  That might have contributed to the short stretch of not playing well, in the second half, against an inferior opponent.

We're 10-0, and we won by 20.  Calm down, folks.

In Dallas we have something called "Overreaction Monday."  It pertains to Cowboys fans flying off the handle, and making all kinds of irrational statements...

Seems we may need to start an "Overreaction Marquette-day" for the hours/day after a game.  Wow!  We won by 20.  Without our best player.  Jae had 19 and 11 and is our 2nd best 3 point shooter.  It will be alarming to read what get written here by some after our first loss of the season...I'm sure some will knee jerk and convince themselves MU is way overrated, our players aren't very good, and our coaching staff doesn't know what it is doing.  (We've already had some here write how this team cannot attack a zone defense, yet it has the exact same coaching staff as last year that coached the team to 2 wins over Syracuse and their vaunted 2-3 zone.)

Beyond the 19 and 11 Jae put up today, Crowder is the heart of this team. While he does take a 3 or two a bit quick, he's the furthest thing from soft we have on this team. His physical strength and will are apparent even when his jumpers are popping out. He's a Warrior who Al would have been proud to put on the court.

One other thing of note today, Crowder's outlet passing doesn't lead to assists but it did lead to what felt like 5 run-out buckets for the guards.

Let's hope Jamil and Jamail are taking notes.

First of Jae is the best and most important player on this team. Second of all, if it was Buzz's goal to destroy every team, he would play only 7 players. Buzz is more interested in developing a team than beating every team badly.

+1, I really hope Jae's mindset rubs off on Jamil. Jae's drive will be more difficult to replace than DJOs offense IMO.

Jeez, how much hate will you spew when MU loses some games, because we are not going undefeated. Get a grip.

I know it's just Northern Colorado, but if I were LSU or any opposing coaches, I would have to prepare different game plans than just implementing a zone defense to stop MU (unless you're Boeheim).

Two games without key players (Junior then DJO) and MU still pulled it out.

MU's bench is going to be key the rest of the year. And with Otule's injury, it's pretty much a must.

I started this when we were only up 9 I was pretty disgusted my apologies. I still don't think jae should be shooting as my 3s because I love what he does in the paint

Teams usually lose a ton without their best players. Marquette, without Otule and DJO, won by 21. Xavier right now without Holloway and Lyons is down 20+

It's not easy to replace your best scorer, and Marquette did it with relative ease yesterday.

Our bench is ridiculous. I started a thread recently about how well our bench would do in the Big East. They wouldn't be bottom 4, of that I am certain. I think they'd be better than ND this year.
