And Marquette can't hit.  Sluggish start.  DJO missed two open look 3's, they hit theirs.  Out rebounding us on the glass early.  Bench may need to light the fire.  Mayo first one in (outside of Gardner for the injured Otule).

WAY too early to proclaim that.  A slow start, but we started slowly in Madison as well.

Otule with sprained knee. Out for game. From twitter.

This game is a little too sloppy right now.
Title: Wow, we miss a lot of shots from three feet and closer
Post by: MU Avenue on December 06, 2011, 09:27:29 PM
We miss way, way, way too many shots that should be automatic, including layups and fast breaks.

In a one-minute span against Washington, we missed two layups and a fast-break dunk.

Ouch!

Sure was.  Slapped with both hands from behind.  Almost looked like he was trying to push him.  Never made an attempt for the ball, only the person.

I'm happy we are ahead after playing so sloppy.

I think Jamil Wilson is getting better with every game, love his energy tonight. He and Mayo are fantastic off the bench.
Title: Re: Washington game thread
Post by: Markusquette on December 06, 2011, 09:38:13 PM
Definitely a flagrant imo, really didn't go for the ball at all.  We couldn't finish very well in the first half and Blue needs to stop carrying the ball.  Mayo looked good besides the two missed layups and nice to see Wilson a bit more aggressive in the offense.  Nothing from Jae yet.  I think Buzz will straighten things out for the second half.
Title: Re: Washington game thread
Post by: Da 'Lanche on December 06, 2011, 09:38:20 PM
DJO maddening and breathtaking in the same half....

the gents look sloppy....too many turnovers and some really quick shots.    Defense started out atrocious and picked it up which, to me, directly translated to taking the lead.

Crowder needs to get it going.   Surprised Anderson did not play more with CO out to give us some height and boards.   Jamil Wilson just keeps getting better and having more impact.   Mayo is such a scoring machine...not sure what happened with the missed dunk except he looked like he was in mid decision on how to do it.

MU should take control in the second half...hopefully....keep playing defense on the perimeter and hit the boards and we should be fine.

Junior not having the bounce back game I expected.

probably not surprising too have a bit of a kohl center hangover.  Let's hope Buzz gives them a b-12 shot at halftime.
Title: Re: Washington game thread
Post by: nyg on December 06, 2011, 09:40:07 PM
The good:  up 3
Mayo, Gardner and J. Wilson picked it up

The bad:   Vander started great, but two missed layups and has 4 TOs already
That Mayo miss was a 4 point turnaround.  Another layup miss 2 points.  Hope it doesn't come down to it.
Where is Jae Crowder the last two games.

Title: Re: Washington game thread
Post by: MUMac on December 06, 2011, 09:40:59 PM
To me, Washington played about as well as it could and MU played poorly ... yet still up 3 at halftime.  I expect them to come out strong to start the 2nd half.  We get the ball first.
Title: Re: Washington game thread
Post by: wyoMUfan on December 06, 2011, 09:42:40 PM
Crowder lost his "junkyard dog-ness"
Seems to only want to follow the action and hit trailer 3's .
He has come up and hit the glass a few times but he needs to be in the paint using his strength not shying from it.
Title: First Half Thoughts
Post by: Lennys Tap on December 06, 2011, 09:44:21 PM
Injury to Chris looked bad - hope I'm wrong. Right now Junior can't stay with any of Washington's guards and Vander's a little out of control. Jae's been invisible.

On the plus side, DJO, Mayo, Davante and Jamil all looked solid.

Let's hope for good news on Chris (most important) and for a better overall second half.

Turnovers were painful. Is it me or should Wilson play more. If neither PG provides offense them I'll take derrick's defense.

Vander has 4 TO's at the half...yet even with those he still looks much improved over last year.  This could be Jamil Wilson's game to make a significant step up/impact.  Think it is clear to all of us by now that Mayo is going to be a huge force on this MU team.

terrible sequence there....bad shot....bounced around missed rebound....no call on a flop by Gardner and then missed boards as UW puts in a 3rd chance point.  ouch.
Title: Re: Washington game thread
Post by: Da 'Lanche on December 06, 2011, 10:07:10 PM
MU maybe has withstood the run....tie it up with the fts and then take control of the game.   Washington can score, no question, but their defense is atrocious and if MU stops shooting itself in the foot and also steps up on defense....game should go our way.

Absolutely spot on.  The entire complexion of that game would likely have been different with Chris.  Fewer offensive rebounds, fewer back door layups/dunks.

I hope he is ok because you just witnessed what the defense will be like without him when we play athletic teams that attack the basket.

I'm looking for whatever I can, but the fact that he was up and walking around without crutches (even precautionary) at the end of the game is probably a good sign.  Still might be out for a bit but much better than the alternative.  Still, I'll be anxious until we hear an official diagnosis.

Yep.  I commented on that in another thread.  Crowder could have shot or passed.  If he misses, Wilson is there for the put back.  They must have put everyone on Cadougan.

I was already watching and hoping it wasn't a big rebound cause Jamil had the putback.  Sprang from my seat when it went in!

Let's hope Chris is ok and it's just a mild sprain.  23 days until Vandy, we have the talent to win until then if Jae/Gardner/Wilson/Anderson can play tough inside.  Didn't think it looked like a bad spain or tear and they were very quick to call it a sprain without hinting it could be worse, I'll take that as a good sign.
