Title: Should Jamil Wilson Start?
Post by: Tugg Speedman on December 05, 2011, 04:56:42 PM
Gary Woeful of the Racine Journal Times had this should "quick hit" in his latest column.

http://www.journaltimes.com/sports/72329da0-14c6-11e1-90e9-001cc4c002e0.html

* Marquette University coach Buzz Williams can't be serious about bringing former Horlick High School star Jamil Wilson off the bench.

You agree?  If so, who do you sit?  Do you think he will start later this year?  Or, do you disagree?

Thoughts?

I think Wilson is good and will be great....however this is insane.  Wilson has not found his groove offensively to justify his starting plus he is much better as an answer to the other teams move or to force the other team to change...small ball, go big, etc.

Besides at the end of the day if Wilson is getting good minutes, perhaps even starters minutes what does it matter if he is there for the tip or not.  I always thought it was a sign of higher significance to be in at the end of the game than at the beginning.

Under the fluid lineup changes throughout the game I do not think it matters that much. I do think he is one of our five best players and needs more minutes. If he is OK with coming off the bench I would say the stay the course.

He offers no justification for his statement.  I have none either.

MU is 7-0 and just won at Wisconsin and he is questioning Buzz on his starting lineup? lol

The guy is a joke.

If Wilson wasn't from Racine Woefel wouldn't even know who he is.

No, he should not start. He will start next year in Crowder's spot and will play a ton in the 4 and 5 up to that point.

"How many Racine Horlick stars you know that come off the bench?"

Seriously though, does whatever a Gary Woeful is even watch the games? I'm sure Jamil realizes the rebuilding arc he's on after his somewhat lost previous two seasons between the Frosh year at Oregon and the transfer sit out year. I'm willing to guess that he and everyone else at MU are pretty happy with the way the first seven games have progressed, and also that they all see that the future for both Jamil and the program are very very bright. Nothing to see here. Whatever insinuation the author is trying to make is woeful.
       .. eh? eh?

Wilson provides a great spot off the bench. Someone with his size and athleticism,  and his ability to matchup with both the other teams bench players and starters makes him a major weapon.

If Gary feels he should be starting, then definately, positively, absolutely, 1000% he  should come off the bench.

Racine Journal Times columnist Gary Woeful can't be serious about talking about Marquette basketball, since he's a hack who doesn't know what the hell he's talking about .

CORRECTED.

Nothing against Racine, which is a nice town, but there is a reason this clown will spend the rest of his pathetic journalism career there. Jamil should start JUST because he's from Racine?

What pisses me off the most about this idiot's post is that Jamil is KILLING IT off the bench.  He played great in Madison the other day, and he's a great fit as a mismatch nightmare at the 3 or 4 filling in for Vander or Crowder, all the time getting big minutes.  Why mess with what is totally working?!

And agreed with a couple other posters earlier, he's totally a starter for the next two years.

In summary, FACEPALM.

Might I suggest an article or two on the relationships between Racine and it's sister cities?

Aalborg, Denmark
Bluefields, Nicaragua
Fortaleza, Brazil
Montélimar, France
Ōiso, Japan
Zapotlanejo, Mexico

Kind of forgot that never-was, irrelevant hack of a "journalist" was still around.

I just hope Jamil's right hand is still attached.   Kid reacted like a grenade blew it up during the UW game.

I'm from Racine originally and yes he is a hack, but it was written on the 21st, right after the close call with Norfolk State.  Many people had questions after that game.  Jamil or his family have given him features before too, so not that surprising.  He should have more subjectivity being a journalist, but he is a hack, so nothing to see here.

Racine is not a nice city. Easily top three worst places in Wisconsin.

Ouch...Hey now... Top three worst places? I'm trying to come to the defense of my home town.... Can you split Milwaukee up into blocks? Have you tried our kringle? What about a Kewpee's burger? Our beach is better than anything in Southeast Wisconsin. 2 players from the team are from Racine. Mac, Chones, Marcus West...

Racine is bad, but has some bright spots.

Here is my top 3.
1. Kenosha is bad, and has no bright spots.
2. Milwaukee (everything besides Marquette, East side, Bradley Center and a small area along the lake front)
3. Any place up north without a decent lake

I spend a lot of time in Racine everyday. North Beach, agree. O&H, hells yeah. Kewpee, never understood the hype. One of my favorite spots was Island Park until there was a pool of blood on the pavement one day, terrible neighborhood.

I feel like I struggle to find decent areas in Racine. North Main by the zoo for a couple blocks. North of Washington east of Ohio for a couple blocks. There's just a lot of poverty and crime. The worst part is the lack of development. At least Kenosha is trying to revive downtown, Racine is just stagnant. Maybe the Riverwalk will help, but that's light years away.

Gary has tried hard for some time to cover not only prep sports (mainly football and basketball) but also college and professional sports in the area.  With that being said, I can't remember a time where when I came across one of his articles I didn't laugh.  He is what his last name says it is.

That would be my 3.  Ranking is appropriate.  Though, without Duluth, Superior might just be #1.

1. Beloit
2. Racine
3. Shebagdad

Sheboygan is number 3 only because I enjoy the Cramp and Adler who's more Sheboygan bit.
