Not good that he had a lapse in judgement, but good in that in provided a better match up for us.
He obviously has a tremendous value to the team... but this is the perfect match-up imo where we didn't need him and probably benefited from him not having many minutes.
1. Defense on JT and the other guards/wings for Wisco was critical. DWilson or whomever was guarding JT rarely gave him any space or jumped on his fakes. Not sure JC could have done the same.
2. No extended defensive pressure. Rob Froenza could have brought the ball up the court and we would have been fine. On the break, the other guards were more than capable of bringing it up.
3. 3 guard lineup of Mayo/DJO/Blue would not have been possible with JC playing. Penetration by each of them was critical. Having multiple threats didn't allow Wisconsin to overload on key players like they have done in the past.
Buzz would have had him out there for at least 20 minutes and I think it would have been a much different game with him in.
Defensively, I agree, but I think that JC makes DJO's offensive game much better. Obviously we won, so it's tough to question success, but I think our shooting percentages would have been much better with Junior in. But like you said, their percentages might have been better too.
Good in that the "next man in" concept came into play. This will give Wilson confidence (and Buzz in him) that he was forced to earn.
As for the matchup, I don't necessarily believe it changed anything. I thought MU had the advantage in this game anyway. The game played out the way I thought it would.
I don't think the outcome would have been any different if Junior played. D. Wilson, Blue, DJO, Mayo and Jones played very well. Marquette's depth is really good this year. There isn't a drop off when players come and go into the lineup. Teams will not be able to get Marquette into foul trouble.
A good learning experiece to be sure, and possibly a net plus defensively. Obvious that nobody feeds CO and DG as well as Junior, though.
The thing that Junior brings on offense is the ability to make something happen when it looks like nothing. A lot of times he seems to just be dribbling up top with not much going on and all of a sudden fires a pass into Crowder for an easy layup.
Well, let me say this...if we were going to pick a game for Junior to miss, this would be the one.
UW doesn't pressure the ball up the court at all. They let the offense set up. It was easy for Wilson, DJO and Blue to bring it up and get it going. We would miss him more against a team that pressures.
Good points..some shaky entry passes for sure today. DJO had 2, 1 that got through somehow for an easy layup, one that was ill-advised at the least.
Never thought of it, but that usually is 8-10 of Jae's points.
I liked the outcome and the way the game played out. Possibly would have been same outcome in a much different way with JC...or maybe not. I do like the confidence going forward the next 4 years for DWilson. You have to think Buzz will still try to get a point in 2013, but if he strikes out on the top guys, I'm not nearly as concerned right now.
