Post by: PBRme on November 30, 2011, 05:04:10 PM
and is this the key matchup of the game?

No, he will be covering ryan evans.  MU will be fine with Junior/DWilson guarding Taylor.

God I hope so. Derrick Wilson could guard him when hes in. DJO needs to just match up with gasser and abuse him. Although putting Vander on a guy shooting 71% from deep aint bad either.

Evans???? I seriously hope Vander does not guard evans. Hes by far Wiscos weakest player. Isnt Brueser more of their 3 anyways?

I think this game will be not so much about who matches up with who (although DJO vs. Gasser--I LIKE OUR GUY!) so much as it will be about defensive rebounding.  Wisconsin killed us last year with offensive rebounds.  Taylor is an All American PG, who never turns the ball over.  I like Cadoogs, DWill, or Blue on him, and they'll do their best to disrupt him, but he's really good.  Just make sure he doesn't get anyone else scoring along with him, and rebound the misses.

I also think that attacking the basket will be key, too.  We can't get into a jump shooting contest with them.

Wisco is not really quick so I would try and take the ball out of Jordan Taylors hands.  Exactly what Al would like to do.  I would press them all game as they have no depth and MU is
11 deep.  Wisco at most is 7 deep.  Make it a 94 foot game.  If Taylor is able to dish and drive, Gasser and Brust will kill MU.  MU needs to press the 3 point line and make them drive to
the basket, O'Tule defense can make a big difference.  If you let them shot 3's all night, MU has no chance.  Offensively, I think MU will have no trouble scoring down low, our inside guys
are much quicker.  The bigger question might be who is going to guard DJO?  He might be the key to this game.

Buzz: Please full court press!  I was at the Thomas & Mack last year when UNLV beat Bucky.  They pressed most of the game.  Taylor had to bring the ball up which wore him down.

Couldn't disagree more. DWilson maybe, but Junior plays way soft D compared to the others. I hope to see Vander denying Taylor all over the court with spot help from DWilson. Could care less what Vander does on the offensive end. Badger fans think Taylor is a lottery pick and I just don't see it. I think Vander has the length to frustrate him. Hopefully the game isn't called very tight. That always seems to be the case when we play them.

I also think it's important to break their rhythm by throwing new looks at them every so often. BYU's zone worked for a large portion of their last game. Badgers looked frustrated because their shots weren't as open or falling. BYU did a crap job of defensive rebounding which led to a ton of open 3s.

This. Love Junior and think he's great at the point and a great floor general for us, but sometimes his foot speed reminds me of Joe Fulce.

There is no doubt in my mind that Vander will be guarding Taylor. He is undoubtedly our top defender and the best option against an all american point guard. Disrupt Taylor and Wisconsin will struggle to get their offense going which will lead to them getting less open looks from 3. Wilson can come in and guard him for spells as well, but I think Cadougan will be the third option while defending Taylor.

Obviously, it depends who is playing at any given time.  Looking at starting line-ups, I see the following match-ups...1-Junior/Taylor  2-DJO/Gasser  3-Vander/Evans  4-Crowder/Bruesewitz  5-Otule/Berggren.

I also think we come out ahead in 4 of the match-ups.

I could see Bo going the majority of the game with 3 guards by subbing Brust in for Evans. They've done that a decent amount this year.

Unfortunately our defensive rebounding isn't great either.

Blue guards Taylor. Cadougan couldn't keep me in front of him.

If that's the case, with our starting line-up, who does Junior guard?  Taylor is overrated, he is averaging a whole 11 points a game.

I'd say Gasser. Just don't help and make sure he stays off the offensive boards. If Brust is in, then I'd say Junior guards him. He's just a set shooter.

I wouldn't put a lot into Taylor's ppg. He has been focusing on distributing rather than scoring early on. He's picked it up a bit in the last few games. I'm interested to see how he does tonight.

I agree tht this very well might be how it goes. Its possible for Buzz to switch Junior and DJO on Taylor/Gasser but Blue almost has to guard Evans. Now when Brust is in the game for Evans then you could see Blue on Taylor.

Come on dude, hes not overrated at all. Hes not padding his stats vs cupcakes. Hes getting the other guys invovled and their looks. Jordan Taylor is damn good.

My point is Cadougan is a terrible defender at this level and is on the floor for purposes other than defense. To answer your question, he can't check any of the Badgers successfully.
Taylor, BTW, is far more valuble than 11pts/game.

Well Dude,  we will see tonight.  I guess by your definition, DJO (19.8 ppg) and Jae (19.3 ppg) must be padding their stats.  Also, Taylor averages 5.8 apg vs Junior 6.3 apg.

You're not really answering the question.  I hope we agree who the starting 5 are for both teams.  If that is the case, my point is, Vander will not be guarding Taylor.  Other times during the game, 3 guards vs 3 guards, I can see Vander guarding Taylor but not to start.

Vander on Taylor for sure.  Taylor is the only one on that team that can penetrate.  We don't need Vander to be lightning on the offensive end and this keeps junior and DJO relatively fresh for the offensive end.  Gasser just runs around a bunch so DJO should have no issue with him.  Junior on the red-headed step child who is slower than even Junior.

We absolutely need to press the hell out of them.  Until they can prove someone other than Taylor can bring it up no reason not too.  Plus its not like Wisconsin is going to run a secondary break on us or something

I start putting these things on paper and I wonder how we could lose but I know that is a very real possibility.  I guess thats why games aren't played on paper.....they are played in television sets

Nope not at all. I never even said he was far better than DJO. Jae has padded the stats a little though, hes had a couple of big games against bad teams where DJO, Van and Junior fed him gift bunnies. Jae is a beast though. Taylor is doing what DJO is, and not forcing much of anything. DJO is consistently just getting his 20 off about 9 shots which is real impressive.

Also not we are scoring considerably more points than wisco as a team.

Can't compare straight up apg when UW averages 59 possessions per game to MU's 73

I'm not badger fan, but he hasn't really shot the ball much. I don't think he is much of an NBA prospect, but he is easily a top three point guard in the NCAA.
