What would a starting lineup consisting strictly of our bench and 5 average Big East bench players backing them up do in conference play this year?
Starters:
PG Wilson
SG Mayo
SF Jones
PF Wilson
C Gardner
6th man Anderson + average BE bench
The Big East is down this year - I think they would have a legit shot at winning 5 or 6 games and finishing out of the bottom 4 above Rutgers, St. John's, DePaul, and Providence. It's crazy how deep our bench is. I've only been paying attention since my freshman year in 2002-2003, but our bench has never even been CLOSE to this good. In fact, I think they'd fare better than our 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 teams in CUSA.
For those that have been paying attention longer - has an MU bench ever been this good? I'm guessing under Al if at all.
Not many because of the youth. Maybe 3 home games?
You do realize that lineup is 3 Freshman and 3 'Sophomores', right?
Pretty bold statement...love the optimism/enthusiam tho.
2 or 3 is realistic. 4 max
DePaul, Providence, USF, Seton Hall, Rutgers

I do not believe so.

While you could argue that Al had good players on his bench, he was never one to use it heavily. So, I'd say no.
atleast 1. The bench for sure can take Depaul.

DePaul is not the worst team in the Big East this year. I have watched them... much better. They will finish somewhere between 13th-14th is my guess.
Our bench could still beat them however. ;D

Agreed. I watched a little of their tournament a week ago and they have come a long way. But Our bench wins 75-60

You need to be more specific. I'm going with 13.681th.

If you've watched DePaul you'd realize there a heck of a lot better than last year. They should be undefeated and be able to handle this bench.
DePaul is real solid from what they usually are. Young is a good ball player and so is #12(name is slipping my mind right now).
Any win would be a surprise, like DePaul beating us 2 years ago. Look at it this way, how many Big East games would MU win if DJO and Crowder left the team. Not many.

Would we still have Ditka as our coach? And would our players be fourteen inches tall or still regular size?

I don't think I agree.

Why dont you agree? That team without DJO and Crowder could be real solid NEXT YEAR when they have experience but right now you think we could win a lot of games without our best shooter/scorer/player and our second best scorer/best rebounder? Take out our starting 2 and 4 and you dont agree that we would be much worse?
Thats a little optimistic.

No. Hurricane Ditka.

I think history shows that, if a team losses a key player that team takes a hugh hit. Last year Georgetown's star guard broke his hand and they lost their last four games. Dominic James breaks his foot and we go in the tank. Losing DJO would have a similar effect and adding Crowder to that would be a disaster.
This year Notre Dame went from a good team to a team that will struggle in the Big East without Abromitus (sp). While our backups have talent there are very few Big East teams they would be starting on this year. However, players should get better every year.

You beat me to it, Henry. I was gonna say: "18-0, my friend, as long as Mini Ditka would keep skinny Buzz as assistant."
