Question:
Who's the MUScoop stud?
Option 1: Jae
votes: 89
Option 2: Vander
votes: 67
Option 3: DJO
votes: 10
1. Jae
2. Van
3. DJO
Everyone is going to take Jae with the points, but give me Vander's rebounds, assists and steals. I vote Blue.
Helluva line by Vander. 9 rebounds, 4 steals, 7 assists is not a bad game at all!
Hard to argue with Jae though. He looked great.
Vander was exactly what you wanted out of him tonight. Didn't force much but stayed aggressive. Jae really had a great game though.
Second half was great all around. Loved Juan's hustle...Mayo's shooting...
1. Jae
2. Jae
3. Vander

Added a poll. I'm thinking Vander - impressive line, and helped change the game in the second half. But haven't voted yet.
1. Jae
2. Vander
3. Mayo
Blue had his best game of the season tonight and he only scored 3 points. If he can have Kirilenko-type numbers (5 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals) every game MU will be VERY good.
That said, I'm gonna have to vote Crowder. He single-handedly put the game on ice with about 10 to play.
The thing about Crowder is he gets good position inside but guys like Blue, Junior and DJO really find him down low. Can't discredit Jae's performance at all, but a bulk of his points come from those bunny lay-ins that are set up by the others. Hard to pick between Vander and Crowder, but I think Jae's burst early in the second half is what sealed it so I gotta go with Crowder.
This one is a no brainer for me, Jae Crowder. He played excellent in the paint and hit some nice 3 point shots. Vander had a nice game but had some pretty stupid turnovers. I like what I am seeing from DJO, he is letting the game come to him and not forcing anything. Great win for MU.
This one is a no-brainer, I voted for Vander. When JVU was keeping it close, Vander was the reason we were maintaining a first half lead. Jae didn't show up until the second, and while he ended up with a good game, I can't see any way to look past Vander. There's a lot more to the game than points, and Vander chipped in all of those things tonight.
Honorable mention to Juan Anderson. No, he didn't fill a stat line, but if he's going to play that hard, he's going to win a lot of fans. That kid's gonna be a star.
I went with DJO as my "no-brainer"... was right up there with 5 boards, 4 dimes, 19 pts and only 1 TO and kept us up in the first half... slowed in the second but the team was picking their play up by then. VB's lack of pts / 3 TOs and Jae's single cat stat line fall just short of DJO's all around game.
If you would have told me that Vander was going to be the leading rebounder tonight with 9 boards, no way would I have believed you. I vote Vander.
Jae for me. He seems to be in the right place and the O runs real smooth when hes in thereat the top of the key. Plays with a nice flow to his game.
Jae for a lot of points. DJO for solid scoring, rebounding, assists and keeping us in it 1st half
You guys make me chuckle. You really vote vander? Seriously? Good grief.
Was at the g ame. Vander was easily the star tonite. Hands down.

I voted Vander. Led the team in rebounds, assists, and steals tonight. Most people tally the glamourous points and call that ultimate justification for SOTG. Van did the dirty work tonight and for that, gets my praise.
Perfect game from Van... Can't expect much more, especially if you are in the, VB please don't shoot 3 pointers, camp like myself.
Jae sealed the game though, Jae gets the vote.
Here's my problem with making Jae the stud...0 assists, 0 steals, 0 blocks, and only 4 rebounds! I'm not sure 27 points makes up for the rest of that line.

Then go DJO. He had 19 pts(way more than Vans 3), he had 5 of each assists and rebounds, which is his goal for the year. Only 1 TO and had 11 pts in the 1st half when the rest of the team was pretty poor.

Absolutely. Outside of shooting, Jae had a very unimpressive night. DJO was fine, but Van deserves it as much for his energy as his overall stat line. We have people to score. Sometimes the best player on the court will defer to those scorers and take over every other aspect of the game himself, which is what Van did last night.
Why does someone need to score 15+ to be SOTG?
Jae for one reason
Swagger - seriously think of all the yelling that would be going on if he and Lazar could have played together.
Van led the team in 3 of the most important 4 categories. Hard to argue with that. Not to echo a lot of the earlier sentiments, but if Van can put up those kind of numbers more consistently, his points will come. Offense shouldn't be a problem for this team. It's those intangibles that make a team great, and Van has the ability to play that role on a nightly basis.

Couldn't agree more! His patience is much improved, he's cut down his turnovers, and he's getting his teammates involved. One thing that Jordan always said was that he let the game come to him. Kudos to DJO for focusing on this aspect of his game. He's averaging a somewhat "quiet" 20 points/game. Can't imagine what we could see if he starts turning it on.
Just wondering, but how many points did Jae have off of Vander's 7 assists and 4 steals?

I voted Vander. He was everywhere early when nothing else was working. He was the most active player on the floor and led. Jae got hot in the second half, but Blue had a better all around game.
I voted Jae. That said, VB played a great game doing exactly what Buzz asked him to do.
Kudos also to Juan who in 5 minutes of work at the end was 'first to the floor' 3-4 times. Great hustle kid. Buzz was half way across the court applauding your effort. That's how you'll earn some minutes this year.

Really? Swagger? Against Jacksonville?

The one thing I can't stand about Jae is his yelling "AND ONE" after every contested shot. Its stupid, childish, and will probably get him in trouble at least once this year again.
Homer and George gave Vander the Cyganiak Planning Player of the Game award on the radio postgame, FWIW. I totally agree...when Vander plays that kind of game it really helps the team excel.

Could you not stand it when Jimmy B & Lazar did it either?

Jae does it 100% of the time down low. The other two were hit and miss.

I would, but I plead my case against Jay, and Vander is still second, and DJO is a distant 3rd. The people have spoken, Jae is the SOTG.

Boooooooooooo!
Foolish majority!
So we have 3 legitimate candidates for SOTG (Jae, Van, DJ-Oh); We have Juan who hustled his butt off and is likely to get a little more playing time; We have a backup point guard singled out for only 2 TO's in an ungodly amt of minutes for a frosh; Jamil seems to be letting the game come to him and being more comfortable in the offense and a long athletic big that we can use to match up; Mayo destined to be an offensive force; JJ playing like a more confident part of the team; A starting point guard that gives our coach inner peace; And two dependable and serviceable bigs.
Things are alright in MU Nation
Agreed, it's good that there's even debates about who should be the "Stud", and even better that there are 2, 3, or 4 honorable mentions every game too.
I'll be honest, I voted for Jae prior to looking at the stats. He was straight dominant for an extended period of time during the second half. That really stuck with me. Vander had some bone headed plays that also stuck with me. Personally Vander's stats didn't provide the same impact to the game that Jae's did.
