Last time was in the 93-94 season.
MU is 16th in both AP and ESPN/Coaches Poll.
Also ranked #16 in ESPN/coaches poll.
SLU won the conference tourney the year Kenyon Martin broke his leg, but were not ranked. They also made the NCAA's in the later 90's when Larry Hughes was one and done, but not ranked. Still have memories of him torching Mike Bargen for 40 at the BC.
This SLU team is good, more of a complete team similar to their early and mid 90's teams.

In other words, this is the second season that they have been ranked in the past 50 years. Gotta feel good for our fellow Jesuit school, but also makes you realize how fortunate we are to have a relevant basketball program much more frequently that some other schools of similar size and nature.

Speaking of schools of similar size and nature, I saw in the Trib yesterday that Loyola had a whopping 1,900 in attendance at the newly renovated Gentile Center. Sad, really. They used to be a real team.

2 more in the top 25s (Pitt 17/17, vandy 20/19)
4 more getting votes in at least one poll (gtown the most, followed by Washington,nova and cincy)
a better sched overall because more balanced, but perhaps not as many headline games as last year

Was at the game Larry Hughes went off...one of the more impressive players I ever remember walking into the BC...especially considering he was a freshman.
Watching Dayton last night, I would not mind being in a basketball only conference with them and X.
I watched some of Dayton and SLU last night. Solid hoops being played by both. Let's hope their students and alums come out to support the programs. (And kudos to Rick. He's still our guy.)

It was Thanksgiving weekend, and I believe a larger portion of their crowd (as compared to MU's) are students who would have been home. Loyola is weak right now, but I think they are headed in the right direction with the new AD and Porter Moser as HC.

I am reasonably certain that a plurality, portion, if not the majority, of Loyola's 10,000 undergrads are from the Chicago area (If I am not mistaken, Marquette draws less than a quarter of its students from Milwaukee). Also, their own website says they have 85,000 alums living in Chicagoland. They should be able to do better attendance-wise for a home opener. I'm not judging; I am just grateful that through the years, Marquette has remained committed to a strong program. After Al retired, we could have very easily become another Loyola (or DePaul, for that matter).
We DID become Loyola/DePaul at the end of the 80's. DePaul was still good and I can remember Rod Strickland laughing at the MU player (Candelino?) trying to guard him. Under Dukiet, you worried about Fordham and Niagara coming to town.
