Marquette is the nation's top team (http://warrennolan.com/basketball/2012/npi)....and if RPI floats your boat is number 3 in RPI (http://warrennolan.com/basketball/2012/rpi).
Of course, neither of these mean a damn thing this early, other than I don't ever remember MU rating this high after Thanksgiving.
We would actually probably be #1 in Sagarin's Predictor and Pomeroy at this stage as well, except that they start out with a rating based on last year and returning percentages, so our margins of victory are balanced against the assumption that we were somewhere between 20th and 30th. From a pure point/statistical perspective, we played two of our top 10 games of the decade already this year with the blowouts of Mount St. Mary's and Mississippi.
We talkin' 'bout Phillip Nolan?
My excitement dimmed a little when I saw who was ranked 2 - 4...
Updated to include the Wisconsin game. Two points ahead of number two now.
