Title: Anyone about to have a heart attack on that last play?
Post by: Buchec18 on November 21, 2011, 09:40:08 PM
Oh my god, I was freaking out. Need to learn how to hang onto leads again. I can tell this is how a lot of games will be this year, another season of roller coaster games! Paradise Jam Champs!

If we don't learn how to play against the 2-3 zone...YES. Still early, and still a young team...playing NSU twice in a week had more to do with tonight being close than anything else. This team will be fine.

Overall, I think that'll be a positive experience for the team.

Yes.  I thought for sure that was going down.  Flashback to DePaul a couple years ago.

Too many missed free throws down the stretch.  I wish Buzz would use timeouts when the momentum turns against us!

All I care about is that we got out of there without an embarrassing loss that we'd have to answer for on Selection Sunday.  Whew!

I know people get hung up on calling of time outs.  I thought Buzz stated it well in the post game interview.  He purposefully did not call some time outs, as he felt the team needed to work through it on their own.  Development.   Know, you may disagree with that, but I totally understand what he is trying to do.  He is not as concerned about this game as you are, he is looking much farther down the road as he develops his team.

It is the only close game that I remember being calm in. I did not want to lose, but the way Norfolk St adjusted their game plan and played, I felt like they deserved to win. It would have been such a hugh win for a their school and games like that is what college basketball is about. I am sure glad we won, but it so much like other games I watch were the major school ends up beating the little school at the end even though the little school played their hearts out.

Great point, bilsu, and why I prefer college basketball to football.   You can name a 1/2 dozen games already this year with legend making upsets or near upsets.   In college football you have David v Goliath wins once every.......decade?

Like Bilsu, I was surprisingly calm.  I was no where near the pulse rate and blood pressure of the Stanford tourney loss.  That is my benchmark for a Marquette "about to have a heart attack" game.

+1, I think expecting the worst gave me a sense of calm. When it didn't go in, I immediately thought, "hey maybe the basketball gods are trying to tell us that it's our year".

Can't beat everyone by 30. THis experience will help later in the season.

Generally for me the stress level goes on a progressive sclae.  It starts low in Novemeber, and gets quite high by March.  Last night wasn't too bad, its just an early season game.  However, games such as Syracuse last year, Washington, Mizzou and Stanford were full of stress.

I admit, I was not calm!  Not in a panic, but not calm.  When DJO dove for the ball I thought OK this is it - we win; then the Norfolk player passes it to a wide open guy for a 3; Crowder leaps in front of him but he pump fakes nad Crodwer blows past him - he gets the shot off - THAT was a stressful moment.  In, we lose, miss, we win!

We win!

Go Marquette!
