Wow. Escape is the real story. In the long run, I am not concerned. This may actually help. In the short run, I did not expect to have troubles sleeping tonight. :o
Doubt it. That would be for hairy wet cats.
OMG! Without Crowder and DJO we would be toast!Hard to beat a team twice.
that would be an IU thing

Hope the banner is better than the trophy. Good grief what a cheesy trophy.

Oddly, I was worried about this game today. In fact, I did not want it all weekend. I was concerned that one week ago we beat them by 31. Our start also may have attributed to some complacency or overconfidence.
Escaped and moved on to next week. Buzz is likely really pleased to have a week of practice ahead of them.

On your pole?
Ummm guys, a few things to act as your Ambien tonight
1) It was the third game in three days for our Warriors. Won't see that again until the Big East tournament in March.
2) It was the second time in less than a month we saw these guys. Won't see that again for at least a month. You're nuts if you don't think that even little ole Norfolk State made adjustments and learned something about Marquette.
3) We won for chrissakes, Under a lot of duress and good teams find a way to win. Bad teams find ways to lose in the last minute,
4) Mississippi was the first team of any consequence we've played this year. Granted, they may be to the SEC what DePaul is to the Big East, but they are major power and they are SEC. We killed 'em. Absolutely left body parts laying around. It was a good start to the real season and we inevitably knew there would be a letdown today.
Now, go slay the rodent in red.

It would seem that this a "reality check" for the Warriors and fans. The troubling part evidenced tonight is the "trending" of Coach Williams teams to lose leads in the second half. Interestingly, Coach McGuire teams had the same tendency. He often put his teams into a defensive shell with a lead and would win it close by shutting down the opponent. Coach Williams teams seem to simply run out of gas. A trait exasperated by playing multiple games in a short time period. Are they over-worked? Regardless, the good news is that team plays like a team, is a team, has talent 10 deep. Could be a great year.

I, personally, wouldnt be opposed to something hanging in the BC for *this year only*. It's a good accomplishment - our team and the MU community should be proud that we won it!...not whining because it wasnt by 30pts...

That's a pretty classless thing for CS to tweet actually. It's one thing for anonymous fools to post crap on a message board. It is quite another for a blog that is followed by former players to trash a former coach for something relatively meaningless.

I am not a fan of banners for any in-season tournament. Save those for the post season. Those are what count!
That said, if they had a banner for in-season tournaments, I would not be part of the katty crew to admonish MU.

Sometimes people think they are funny and come across as insensitive jags. Unfortunately, I can, at times, fall in that group as well. I could be accused of that with the title of this thread. ;D That is why I typically try to stay away from the crean discussions. So, I will give the benefit of the doubt and hope it was a bad joke run amok. Perhaps a retraction would be best.

Funny you state that. When I was watching the interviews and features, I kept thinking about all of those times I stayed at an on-site Disney Resort. You could get the channel that previews all the Disney attractions. These interviews and features seemed more in line with that channel.

I just don't get how the distaste for Crean has permeated everything. Crean is well in the rearview mirror and yet people spin a game years after he left as an insult to him and the players he brought to the program. I haven't thought of Crean relative to an MU performance (Tournament or not) in three years.
Add to it, this blog has just asked one of Crean's former players to add "guest" postings from time to time of his experience playing overseas. Don't crap where you work guys.

Yes, a bit harsh on that one. As for broads that holla at me, she'd be OK... but I pull some fine hunnies.
I watched the two of the games, but I'm not sure how attractive those guys were. When I see another man they usually fall into two categories - (1) that's a guy, (2) that dude looks all eff'd up. My boy ZFB usually classifies them as either 'hot' or 'not cute, but doable' so he can chime in with whether they were attractive.
As far as talent goes.. I like her, especially when she proclaims, "this mic will be the death of me!" on air. Physioc and the other dude were great. I learned all sorts of alternative pronunciations for our players.
PS - I'm very offended by your use of 'chick'. Sexist.
Tim and I both have access to the twitter feed. During the work day, he's not able to view or post in scoop, but I will respond.
When that tweet occurred, it was immediately recognized as a cheap and poorly written joke. It was out of character for our handle, and we should be better than that. A better comment would have been, "Great win but let's not hang a banner".
We've tried to clarify things in subsequent tweets today.

+1 CS can't figure out what they are about right now. They used to be about opinions, good or bad, on the state of MU hoops. Solid recruiting information. Now they are mostly statistically driven, which is fine but the edge is gone. They've become a mouthpiece for the anti-former coach crowd when many fans have long since moved on and do not care. Basically a cheerleading arm for the program. Nothing wrong with that, but we saw what happened in the last few weeks when one of the CS members put a story up there about the sexual assault coverage, a topic that CS didn't seem willing to tackle at all. A few people here exploded and CS caved and took the post down. Yet days later they put this stuff up about banners and again bring up a reference (indirectly) to the former coach. To whom are the catering?
They have to decide what they are. If they want to be the house organ for the athletic department, they should just say it on their masthead.

How is putting up a blog entry about hanging banners do anything but bring back Crean era arguments\drama? That's exactly what that blog post does and is a slap at the former coach.
Secondly, can you reference some examples of the other contributor (we all know you are talking about Chicos) and his never-ending Crean/Buzz arguments? My visits to CS are fairly routine and to my recollection there have been no Crean stories in what seems like years from CS, let alone from that poster. A quick review this morning didn't turn up anything there either. Hyperbole from you perhaps? I talk to him a now and again. He's taking care of his daughter and the rest of his family, doesn't have the time he used to for CS and has been banned here. His love for Marquette hasn't changed as one visit to his house (we saw him earlier this year on the way to Disneyland) will attest.

People here didn't "explode" because of the topic, they were upset at the misleading way it was described. Furthermore, and I never realized it until you said it, but if they never addressed the alleged sexual assaults at all, why would they choose to do so earlier this month?
But I do agree with your overall assessment. Part of it is with *nine* contributors, I wonder if they have lost a bit of their focus.
Let me address some of this.
First, contributing to Cracked Sidewalks is a hobby. Believe it or not, that hobby doesn't always take the highest priority compared to things like our families, our careers, school, drinking beer, or my fantasy football team. Especially when some people have been contributing for four-six years.
Second, we did cover the sexual allegations a while back. We didn't really want to, but we did cover it through about a week's worth of collaboration.
http://www.crackedsidewalks.com/2011/07/marquettes-pr-nightmare.html
Third, as for what we are about, we moved away from a model of news or daily reporting on the blog itself a long time ago. That content can honestly be found most other places and done better. Plus, see above about this being a hobby. Our recap of a game is probably not much better than anyone else's. Besides, for up to date info, the CS twitter feed is actually very active with those updates. https://twitter.com/CrackedSidewlks
Fourth, following up on the general direction of the blog and Chicos. The reason Chico's post was taken down was because it added no additional value and the timing was sh*t. It was completely unnecessary on the first day of the season. Kevin, Tim, and I saw the post and flipped out. Chicos was not very happy his post was removed, btw.
Fifth, we are anything but a mouthpiece for the AD, nor are we bashers of the former coaching staff. The twitter entry about Crean was already discussed earlier in this thread. It was a cheap, bad joke, and we consider this issue closed.
https://twitter.com/stevenovak20/status/139181110813925376
I hope that helps clarify things. And for the record, thanks for airing these concerns with us. We believe criticism is healthy and appreciate the opportunity to discuss.
Novak took offense to something he was a part of: a program that took pride.
Not that our former coach took pride and ran with it...to Bloomington...or that Steve understands from a fan perspective that your "kids" found out from ESPN rather than your Gd mouth and how'd that tick off MU fans who were sold on loyalty.
Steve can only thank TC in a way he only knows: player to coach.
But not as a fan.
I laughed at CS's tweet but I understood why Novak was defensive.
Really, it's enough to stomach the amount of over reacting DERP (yes, even I've been guilty of it on occasion) people post about MU basketball, (see: Blue, Vander), but it's quite another to see people making super-stupid remarks about BLOGS, especially ones like CS, which is awesome, and a DAILY destination for yours truly's at-work reading. I've had ONE objection to their posts in the ENTIRE time they've blogged. Good lord, they made a bad joke...ON F***ING TWITTER! Get over it.
"Losing focus", are you kidding me? Some people need a huge, warm glass of "calm down."
