Title: Who is this year's "JFB?"
Post by: MUFC9295 on November 21, 2011, 12:51:24 PM
We have always had a player (or three) to rally around.  Call it a stud or an unofficial leader or whatever.  Diener, Mac, Amgigos, JFB... Who is the face of our team now?  Is there a player or is it a collective effort?

Gotta tip my hat to the Seniors: Jae and DJO.

They're gonna carry us as far as they can. But it's great to see Junior, Otule, Vander, and Davante chip in.

DJO and Crowder without a question.  I get the feeling someone new will bust out each night to be their support depending on who has the hot hand/opportunity.

But who will have the ball at the end of the game?  JFB could create his shot and I trusted him handling the ball.  I liked having both Jae and DJO ready to get a pass for JFB.

Last shot is DJO no questions asked. His mid range looks much improved and he can find his own shot pretty much whenever he wants. Just sometimes goes a little out of control.

Him and Crowder are the clear leaders

Last shot guy is definitely DJO.  I want him with the ball if we need a basket with the clock running down, for sure.

I think the leadership, heart-and-soul (sports cliche alert!) component of Butler's game--Crowder has that covered.

As of now, Crowder.    As season goes on, DJO.

Beyond DJO and Jae Crowder, I take Todd Mayo third.

To be honest - last second shot guy might be Vander but not in the iso situation JFB did. Ball in his hands, penetrate with this quickness, draw a foul, ready to hit an open shooter if they're open. We saw this at the end of one of the early games this year and blue hit crowder in the face with the ball but crowder couldn't handle it.

I like Junior taking it to the rack and finding the open man.  Preferably DJO for 3.

The key on the last shot is someone that can create space, and can score from multiple spots on the flloor (at the Rim, Midrange, Deep and go either R or L).  Vander and Crowder do not do that real well and on a last second shot more time then not the ref does not call the foul.  I would Go DJO far and away.

Also dont forget DJO is far and away the best free throw shooter of the canidates.

Junior, Vander and Jae are all streaky.

Hoping we don't need a last second shot...

I like the ball in the post with Davante.  He's got a way of getting his shot off, and tends to get fouled - which he's shooting from the line well.

Good news is we seem to have a lot of good options.  Bad news is we will speculate endlessly on this until it happens.  I guess that's not really bad news though.

I've noticed before any MU player shoots FTs DJO seems to gather up the guys and have a few words each time.  He's not doing it flashy, but I think he's embraced the leadership roll.

Ahh....

And just last year people on this board didn't think Butler was enough of a leader.

Junior is one of those guys I like taking the last shot. He's not a great shooter, but I trust him. I see him like James, there might be some ugly shots in the first 38 minutes, but he'll hit the clutch shot when it matters most.

Am I the only one who thinks Todd Mayo makes a lot of stupid decisions? He can shoot occasionally, but the majority of what I see is low-percentage shots being thrown up. He shoots a lot of shots with defenders right in his face. He seems a little hard-headed at times.

Interesting idea.  Unconventional for an MU team to go to the post for a last second shot, that's for sure.  I like it.  If he catches it in good position, he almost gets us points.  He either bodies his man up and gets a lay in or gets fouled and makes his free throws.  I'd like to see that.

Ahh....

And just last year people on this board didn't think Butler was enough of a leader.

Was just about to write the same thing.  What a stupid assertion that was too.  Just because he didn't yell and we lost some games to unbelievably tough competition, there was a mythical "leadership void."  What a crock!  That was Jimmy's team, even though he didn't scream at people.  More than one way to be a leader.
