But but but but only 2 NCAAs in 5 years....how is this possible?
;)
That sucks. Hate to see him leave WVU.
Plus, a good guy recruiting in our backyard.
I respected Belein. Don't see him having a huge affect on our recruiting, any more than it did when he was at WV. He will probably help Michigan's program. Big loss for WV.

Yes, a big loss for WVU and the Big East.
And a huge punch to the gut for Bo Ryan in particular.......add Beilein to Tubby, Sampson and to a lesser degree Lickleiter -- the Big Televen has substantially upgraded its coaching ranks
Is it an upgrade over Amaker? Yes. Is it the right choice for that school, no way, I say.
With all the many problems Michigan's had the last 12 years, they need someone who can come in there and get a commitment from the school to upgrade their facilities, get rid of the apathy from the students, and make college hoops exciting again.
Instead of getting a young, energized head coach from a non-BCS conference, or plucking a proven assistant head coach with success, they opted for a 54-year-old guy looking for one final pay day. I just don't see Beilein with the energy or drive to get Michigan hoops to a point it needs to be to be consistently successful again.
He's a good coach, don't get me wrong. But the wrong fit for Michigan. They needed to roll the dice on a young coach/assistant and hope it got lucky (like MU did w/Crean).

I think this is exactly why Beilein is the right guy......Michigan cant or wont upgrade facilities now (Crisler, and wont build a practice facility). Realizing that, the administration went out and got a guy who is a great coach, with a proven system that should benefit based on access to better talent that generally goes to a school like Michigan.
Say Beilein starts winning there in 2 years -- the facilities will come. A younger coach might have needed the facilities as a crutch to get things moving - -Beilein wont. Plus, given the substantial upgrade the Big Televen has made in coaches in the last two seasons -- UM needed a grown up to ensure the program is not blown off the map.
good hire
