Feeling lazy, want to order a pizza tonight. Whats your favorite pizza in Milwaukee? I'm downtown but willing to go for a reasonable drive to pick something up if need be. Sals at Marquette is a pretty good pie, but if you're looking to get a really good pizza (even if its a couple extra bucks) who you calling?
I believe Zaffiro's was rated as the best Pizza place in Milwaukee. I am huge Toppers fan though. :)
I hate to say it, but there is no good pizza in Milwaukee
no good pizza? what are you talking about? You must be from Chicago where they eat those pizza loafs.
If you are downtown, head up Oakland to Lisa's. Excellent thin style.
Barbieres on about 50th and Bluemound also rocks. I could go on and on, but those two spots are sure to hit the spot.
My bosses at work always hook us up with a bunch of Ned's Pizza for all day meetings. Some pretty good thin crust:

Ann's Pizza in Hale's Corners was very good, but in full disclosure, I have not been there in years.
Angelo's had great pizza back in the day.
Gotta vote for Zaffiro's, Lisa's is also pretty darn good
zaffiros, hands down.
Pizza Shuttle. 289-9993. Not that I have that memorized from years of ordering breadsticks or anything like that....
Would of said Angelo's but unfortunately they are no longer in business. Sal's on campass is very good new york style pizza.
Went with Zaffiros. Definitely very good - didnt regret the decision at all. One note though is that it is very thin, which isn't a taste or preference problem, just a bit of a volume problem. Ordered it with the lady - so it worked out, but two hungry guys would need more than a single large pizza (they only have two sizes) to get the job done.

sal's is only good if ordered by the slice if you order a whole pie its a sloppy disaster

Must have been a while ago... they were downright awful during their last year or so of business.
Zaffiros is good stuff.
from your location Zaffiro's is best..., if west of the city go with Doc's Drydock on Pewaukee Lake- also muy fabuloso y delicioso thin crust.

Augie,
How do you rate Giordano's or Lou Malnati's in Evanston?
my flatlander friends like Lou Malnati's, but I think I get just as good a pizza at Orso's in Old Town, and you can't beat the ambiance.

Very good but specialty pizzas are more their thing. Also a location on North now as well.
Here in SO Cal we order Malnati's so there is always something in the freezer when we get the jones for one.
Several times a year they have special deals and we order half a dozen or so. Always make a pilgrimage to Giordanos when we are in Chi

I still prefer the Bay View local because, well, I live in Bay View.
Giordanos used to be the best place in Milwaukee (IMO) when it was still in Grand Ave... but then it got replaced by a crap-tacular Crapplebees.

+1, and make to get there garlic bread. Out of this world.

I always thought it was impossible to screw up pizza...then I had Toppers.
Can't go wrong with Zaffiro's but definitely order a lot because, like MUBurrow learned, it's not all that filling. My sons are 2.5 and they can damn near finish a whole pizza by themselves.
We love Marco's on S. 27th St. near College, there's another location on the north side somewhere as well.

I'm actually from New Jersey, and i'm sorry, there's just no good pizza in Milwaukee. Milwaukee has better burgers and gyros than I would almost venture to say anywhere else in the country, and there's a ton of good food there. but I'm sorry, the pizza is terrible. You may think it's good pizza, and If you enjoy it, thats great. But it's just not good.

It was nice of you to put this up front so that I could ignore the rest of your post. Very thoughtful of you.
IMO Balistreri's has the best pizza in Milwaukee, followed closely by Barbiere's. Zaffiros is alright. I'm honestly surprised that there's so much love for them. We've had them a couple of times at work and they were just OK. I've heard Transfer is pretty darned good, I've been meaning to give them a try. Any thoughts on them?
1. Transfer
2. Organ Piper (Mr. Roboto is a big hit apparently)
3. Balisteri's
4. Calderone Club
5. Zaffiro's
6. Barbiere's
7. Rustico
8. Palms
9. Piccola
10. Joey Buona's

Transfer is very good. I've only had the garlic pizzas so I can't say much about the normal ones, but the garlic ones are very good. Also, you can get personal pizzas so everyone can get something different if they want.
In Kips defense, there is no good pizza. Don't get so pissy about it.
Sal's was a good effort, but extremely greasy for a whole pie.
Pizza Hut !
Rosati's is a good place, out west/mem falls way.
Pizza is a lot like sex. When its good, it's really good. When it's bad, it's still pretty good.
Big fan of Lalli's between 88th and 89th and North Ave. in Wauwatosa.
My personal favorites:
1. Zaffiro's
2. Cranky Al's (68th & North in Tosa-good family place, not open late)
3. Transfer (cool atmosphere, too)
4. Balestreri's
5. Pizzaria Piccola
6. Calderone Club
7. Mama Mia's

I'm not offended, and I'm also not from Milwaukee. I'm just saying that thinking a major metro area doesn't have ANY good pizza is silly.

i can't eat a pizza in 20 seconds.
I'm with Kip's Bay. There are no good pizzerias in Milwaukee let alone outside the Northeast. I'm knowingly spoiled by living in the epicenter of New Haven style apizza. My brother (also an MU grad) lives in the Twin Cities and the first thing off the plane he asks is for soemone to take him for a real pizza and some birch beer. I have a eating travel rule for outside the Northeast - no pizza - because it's always severly disappointing.
And I don't want to hear about Chicago either. I finally had some over the summer (after reunion weekend) as I felt I had to try and no surprise it was average. I read a story recently about a bet between Rahm Emmanuel and my congresswoman, Rosa Delauro, on pizza. They both agreed to have pizzas from New Haven & Chicago sent to Congress for a taste test. They hand out the pizza, and congress actually votes on which is the best. Chicago only got two votes.

As a city Chicago has restaurants that serve all types of of pizza including thin crust, deep dish, Neapolitan, stuffed, and party cut. It's not like there is a law that prohibits the serving style of pizza.
Di Carlos on Howell (in Oak Creek) is excellent. Good pizza and other italian fare. The owners are from Chicago and the place almost always packed.

What "Chicago pizza" did you have? IMO, Lou Malnati's deep dish blows away anything that the NE has to offer.

These kind of posts crack me up - it's as if no one from the "hallowed pizza teritory" on the east coast has ever moved to the midwest and opened a pizza joint making the exact same pizza here LOL. Or mayba there's something in the water there that makes a difference....
I also agree DiCarlo's and Transfer are very good but instead of pizza at DiCarlo's we really go there for the spaghetti ala carbonara (thanks to Dennis Ghetto for that one years ago)
