my opinion on all that is that the gubmint desperately needed a scapegoat for heterosexually contacted hiv. at that time, there was a lot of finger pointing that hiv could only be contacted thru homosexual activity. and thus, many were not real supportive of throwing money at that time to something people felt was self inflicted thru immoral activity. since african americans were, as a group, very much in denial of homosexual activity, magic became the perfect person to put out that fire. who is gonna call magic a homo-sexual. magic is "the man"! say it ain't so!! so he got it thru un-protected heterosexual contact, or so they say. anyway, he openned the door to accept hiv as a real problem that needed money for research and to stop the suffering from it's nasty effects. everyone, i mean EVERYONE loves magic. who's gonna dis the magic man. he was/is an ambassador to hiv victims, male and female. so... i mean, if he really had aids, i know he had the money and the support and all, but come on, look at him. he's healthy as a horse. i know i'm gonna get beat up for this comment, but that's just my honest opinion.
So you honestly believe that the government wanted a black role model to show that heterosexuals can contract HIV and convinced Magic to lie and retire to be that role model?
i do have my suspicions-no proof of course, but just kind of a feeling. magic looks about as sick as aaron rodgers. the purpose of this sight is to bring about independant thought and opinion. i'm not trying to start anything and i'm not about to go on a crusade re: this "opinion, but it came up and i thought i'd spew and throw it out there. i know it's going to be beat up and that's o.k. my thoughts are just an inner skepticism
everyone know he got aids from isaish thomas. that's why they were cool with kissing each other at the all star game.

So...at age 31, after a season where he played 79 games, averaged 19 and 13 and led his team to the NBA Finals, Magic decided to "sacrifice" his career to further AIDS research and teach black people that HIV isn't only a homosexual disease? Would a PSA not have been enough?

The first part of your post restates an old conspiracy theory - that the press, the government, etc. supported Magic's version of how he contracted HIV (through unprotected heterosexual contact) in order to mainstream the disease. I'd rate that one as extremely unlikely. Then you segue to the theory that he never was HIV positive at all, he just said he was. I'd rate that as close to impossible.
