Big East invites 5 schools to join the conference

Written by: noreply@blogger.com (muwarrior92)

Sources have indicated that five schools have been invited to join the Big East Conference (http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/7101780/source-big-east-sends-invites-five-schools-hike-exit-fee).  SMU, UCF, and Houston (AD is Mack Rhoades, formerly a Marquette University Athletic Department official) for all sports.  In addition, Boise State and Air Force for football only.

Navy was not yet extended an offer, but could in the coming days.

I have to think that if they turn us down, it's the football teams' lack of commitment. The $10M buyout is nothing, we needed forfeiture of future revenues.

If Boise's goal is a BCS conference, they must see a better way to get there.  (Like the merger of the CUSA and MWC football programs.)

Sure hope there were contingencies on those offers to UCF, SMU and Houston...that they only are good if Boise, Air Force, etc. accept.  The worst case scenario here is unfolding as I see it:  WE are going to add fairly crappy basketball teams to the league, 2 from Texas, which will make it harder for Buzz to pull kids from Texas to MU - as kids can now get the "Big East experience" much closer to home.

Granted, when Lville, WVU, UCONN leave in the next few years - which will happen - it will be a very watered down Big East experience...in basketball...based on the departure of Ville, UCONN, WVU...coupled with the generally poor track record of SMU, Houston, UCF..
