I think he will play some for us next year. He sounds more ready than Hazel. It's nice to hear he has a nice quick first step for a big guy. We sure don't have a big man on our current roster that has any kind of quick first step to the basket. I think Saunders over time will develop into a pretty good player in the BE. He can run, jump, and move laterally pretty well. Those are three areas we really have been lacking in with our big men.
Good to hear they don't anticipate any problems with him qualifying. I hear he could rival Burke as the cellar dweller in the free throw shooting category. Glad to hear he is an athlete and can rebound/block shots, but I hope he can provide somewhat of an offensive presence after a year or two in the program.
Boy, Bill Barton seems familiar with our personnel.
This is the part of the story that caught my eye: "The 6-foot-8, 210-pound Saunders was the fourth and final member of MU's 2007-'08 recruiting class, and committed in early November despite the fact the Golden Eagles didn't technically have a scholarship to offer him.
They still don't, but that's a situation that's expected to work itself out in the coming weeks."
