I am looking for a place to live for my 5th year and I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice. I am considering something like Gilman because it is cheap and MU wireless is included. Anyone have any info that would help me out? Thanks in advance.
check out the apartments on 15th st a half block in from kilbourn. nice 1 bedrooms.
or, 4never has a basement dungeon in the Quon for rent too. Don't take your jeans off though...
The Ritz is a newly renovated building on Kilbourn between 15th and 16th. It is all studios I believe and cable and internet is included.
I live in the Gilman now and really like it. The building is in very good shape with the exception of old windows that have a tendency of sticking. Wireless internet is very fast, and the appliances are in good shape, also cable, gas, and water are included in the rent. Plus, the University is a great landlord. One thing to consider is which room you get. The layouts differ a lot between each room on a given floor, and some are very small. The rooms on the inside of the building have windows to small "courtyard" type of things to get at least some fresh air, but go for a room that has a window on the Wells or 17th St. side if you can. I think you can see the floor plan on the MU apts website - I'd use this as a guide if/when you sign-up. If one's available, the -08 rooms are the best unit.
I also have a friend who lives in a studio in the Varsity (owned by Schulof) on 15th St. right next to Campus Town East. No cable or internet included, but a very nice building. Good luck on your search.

The buildings are usually a little older, but not bad, and they are usually pretty cheap. When I lived there, they didn't include cable or internet (but you COULD get free wireless from the Ambassador next door if you stood in the right spot :P), But all utilities were included.
Also, they rent month to month, so if you need only a semester, or are hanging around for a little while after graduation, that's a nice option.
They tend to be a little further towards the edge of campus, but I think all their buildings are still on the limo routes.

I live in a 3 bdrm on 22nd (managed by Wiegand). The area is a little sketchy but nothing too terrible and the apartment is a little old. That being said the apartment is a great value. All of the bedrooms are good sized and the living room is big. The kitchen can be a little crowded but for what I am paying ($700 mo/ 3 people) beggars can't be choosers. There is internet included but its pretty shitty so we decided to get our own internet and cable thru time warner.

I lived in the building just south of the bank at 21st and Wisconsin and would live there all over again. Heat, electric, and internet all included and i think I was paying less than $500 back in 2005. 1 bedroom apt... fairly old building.
Whatever you do, don't live at Marquette II. That landlord is a scum bag and the units are hit or miss as to how nice they are. Marquette I is nicer, but the landlord is still bad.

I lived at Marquette II. Not the nicest places, but that's to be expected. Never had an issue with the landlord.

I lived at MU I and had a bunch of friends at MU II. Never any issues and when you needed something fixed the maintenance crew was fast.
