My thoughts...

Mizzou, KU, KSU, ISU and Baylor will now invite the BE football leftovers to join the B12 under their conference umbrella.  (Louisville, Cincy, TCU, USF...and whatever is left given the rumors heard about WVU, UConn and Rutgers.)  The remaining BE schools, which might include ND, will invite a couple of schools into the conference...and life goes on.

I think I agree.  The football schools leave.  ND maybe stays.  Welcome Xavier, Butler, maybe Dayton.  In the long run, I think it might just work out from a basketball perspective.

If the big east continues to crumble, i agree that the best outcome is to be able to have a basketball centric leaque with nova, gtown, ND, Xavie, Butler, and any others.  At least better than going back to C-USA.

Not sure how all this will affect the NCAA tournament. If the BCS decides to have its own championship I am sure all the other D1 Basketball schools (about 280) will cry fowl and get Washington to put a stop to all this.

On another note the basketball only schools will have to get together in a big (national) way if they want to compete with the super conferences. Since geography does'nt seem to be a prime consideration may I suggest a merger of the remaining Big East, A10 and WCC schools. That would be a 30 team league with a large demographic which ESPN, FOX or other network could not ignore, or hell form their own network to generate the money they would need to compete and recruit at the same level. Just venting.

The Big Midwest....Football...Kansas, Kansas St., Baylor, Iowa St., Missouri, TCU, WVU, SFU, Cinci, Louisville.

Basketball...All the above plus, MU, ND, DePaul, Seton Hall, Providence, Georgetown, Villanova, Xavier.

10 football teams and 18 basketball probably the best we can hope for.  It sucks losing Uconn, Cuse, and Pitt but picking up Kansas, K st., Missouri, and Xavier is a close swap from a basketball perspective.

I came up with the Super Big East Conference.  It's basically a merge of the remaining Big East and Big XII teams.  Some expansion may be necessary if there are any more defections and to get into major metro areas for TV.

I think I'm agreeing with Wayne.  Our football programs are leaving; heading to B12, ACC and one to the SEC.  We're restocking with the top A10 and Horizon teams.

Frankly, I wonder if the BEast bball teams are the ones who make the call.  If I'm Fr. Pliarz talking with his Georgetown friends the conversations center on the difference between being an also ran in the 5th best football conference (not my idea of fun) or a leader in a revamped football-less BEast.  I like the latter much better.  Bet the Catholic schools feel the same way.
