A closer look at Deonte Burton
After a few days of phone tag, I was finally able to connect with Deonte Burton regarding his commitment last weekend to join the Marquette Golden Eagles' 2013 recruiting class.

Great read. Burton sounds like a really great kid. Glad Buzz got front row for his summer games. Seems like those two will have a very good relationship. Burton sounds like he fits the culture of Buzz's program perfectly.
Just amazing size. Very unique. He can play a wing or in a smaller lineup move over to the 4. Gotta love the matchup problems that teams will have with a 232 pound wing that can play like a bull. I'd imagine we are looking at a 240 pound wing freshman.
Charles Barkley?
In college Barkley was too fat to fully use his tremendous athleticism outside of 5 feet. But once he got his fitness in order he was a dominant inside/out player and became a hall of famer.

If he's 6'4" and 232 going into his junior year, I think there's a very good chance that he'll be well over 240 two years from now. I'd figure a kid like that would put on 10lbs of muscle even if he didn't grow any more. If he's got another couple inches in him, as well as getting bigger/stronger, who knows?
Looks like a great pick up. Too bad we have to wait two years to see him on the floor for the Warriors.

There are not too many high schoolers that can stop a 6'4' 232 pound player from going to the hoop. It will be a different story in the Big East as Blue found out last year.
Yeah, look how much trouble Blair had as an underized post in the BEast. If he has the strength to go with his size, he will be able to get his shot. The real question is, will he be able to defend.

Blair and Burton do not play the same position and Blair was at least two inches taller with long arms and great hands. Basically Blair is Devante Gardner with hops.
Tucker for Wiscy was about this height and got his shot off easily in the B1?. I realize the B1? is nowhere near the basketball conference the BEast is. I am not saying that it is an automatic, just that you need to be open to the possibilities. Will he grow? (If he is 6'6 with the same attributes?) How strong is he/will he be? How is his lateral movement? Also, remember, this is a junior-to-be. Playing in the conference he is in for the next two years, he could look like an entirely different player by the time he arrives. The concensus among those who make it their job to know these things is that the kid is a stud. Clearly, they aren't always right, but I'm not going to start slagging a kid two years away for what he isn't yet.
I am not saying that he will not be a good player. In fact I think he will be very good. We just should not expect him to be a star his first year. Look at history of the MU program, most players that turn out to be really good average 5-7 points their freshmen year. Diener, Hayward, Novak, and Butler his first year fall around this scoring range. Blue and Gardner were not to far below this last year.
I agree with that completely. I have come to think that any contributions from a freshman are gravy. The amigos were an exception.
Feel like there's a shading of a mini Antoine Walker in Burton.
