Love what I read in this article...love that Deonte wants to be a role model to Milwaukee kids, and show them its cool to attend your hometown school.
Buycks deserves some credit for coming back to MKE and starting it, now Deonte - and I can only hope its just a matter of time before MU basketball is THE BRAND of Milwaukee Public Schools - and the talent within becomes a locked down recruiting base for Buzz and MU.
Great read, Mark, thanks. Really excited about Burton coming home to Milwaukee.
EDIT: For me, this sums it all up -- "Milwaukee also needs a change in the sense of having somebody to look up to. Being from Milwaukee and playing at Marquette, I hope I can be that kind of person for the young players in the city."
Deonte Burton is exactly the kind of player and person I want representing Marquette. Kevon Looney, I hope you're hearing this... ;D
I know it is 15 months before he can sign, but when you read comments like this, you know that his commitment is rock-solid. Awesome stuff.
Ultra-athletic 16-17 year old that is 6'4" 236? That is insane. If the NBA doesn't draft him, the NFL will!

It seems that way. I hope he elevates his game to a top 15 recruit and then says no from the Kansas, Duke and North Carolinas trying to pry him away.
Why did he leave Vincent?

Why did he leave Vincent?
As I recall he wanted to up his game. Brewster plays a much more difficult slate than Vincent does.

That was in a Scout article.

Yeah, seriously, someone find out what the real reason was... there must be something shady going on. That was definitely not a traditional move and we did not land on the moon.
All the good news lately is really gettin me pumped for this year. Buzz is assembling great talent
and guys that will fit in the locker room.If he gets the big we need we could be very good indeed!

Wow - Here's a surprise - MU lands a Top 40 kid - and the one comment Hoopaloop has is not one of excitement, congratulations, our anything of the sort - but rather a feeble attempt to try to find a potential negative.
Character revealed indeed.

Do you know how strong the program is at Brewster? Won National Championship in 2010. He left Vincent for a private boarding school where 100% of graduates attend a 4 year college and the basketball program sends players to top 25 programs annually. Not hard to figure out!

UL, dw3 was sarcastically responding to Chicos errrrrr Hoopaloop's insinuation. You guys are on the same side. The reason for the transfer is obvious as daylight to someone without an agenda. Love this commitment, can't wait to see Burton in an MU uni!
Welcome Deonte - your name is already in lights, on the MUScoop scholarship table...

I do not care if he was being sarcastic or not. It was a jerk post.
It should have been in teal, bilsu. Clearly sarcasm. And it would appear that Deonte left Vincent for greater development as a player, a person, and a student. We should be happy that we have a commitment from a player who figured out at a young age that using basketball to better himself and his educational opportunites was a good thing. The kid chose to go and was accepted into a prep school that sends 100% of its graduates to college, and competes at the highest level athletically. Who wouldn't leave Vincent for that if given the chance. There is absolutely no downside for MU.

Really? You have over 2000 posts on this board and you can't see what Hoopaloop was trying to start? I even added another dumb conspiracy to make it clear of my intentions.
Have you ever heard of a kid talking about impacting youth in the community during his commitment interview? He's got a lot of work left to do, but to have that focus 2 years into high school is impressive. I have no idea and could care less if had any issues in 9th grade that caused him to transfer. Hoopaloop is simply trying to find that information out so his view of MU basketball (and its ethics) sans Crean remains the same.
If someone gave your kid the opportunity to play for a top 10 prep school and your kid was currently a freshman in MPS, needing to get through 3 more years of MPS and all that comes with it, you would be stupid (imo) to not encourage him to leave.

I would give credit to R JAX-Robert Jackson. Came back home. Final Four. Played with D Wade. And an ever presence at MU games in the Gerry Boyle section. I would think that R Jax carries more weight than Buycks. Only time will tell if Buycks can carry the torch as well as R Jax.

Absolutely it was. Burton was very impressive in his comments. Seemed very mature, beyond his years. Looking forward to see him represent MU - on AND off the court!
I didn't realize that McGary is his teammate.
Deonte sounds George Thompson-esque with that physique!
A wrecking ball!

Agree completely. I feel bad about getting sidetracked on re-allignment talk again. This week should be all about Deonte. We got Jackson back for one glorious year, Buycks back for 2 years and a Sweet 16 run, and hopefully local kids will now decide it's best to just come to MU freshman year so we can enjoy 4 great years from them!
Welcome Deonte - we are all very excited.
