Indiana Tops, UW is 23rd,MU is 29. Six BE Programs in top 25.Badgers ranking based on
one commit? Huh?
Had we landed either Dunn or Cleare, we'd probably be in the top-10. If we land Mbargorba, we still probably crack the top-25. UConn's class also based on one commit.
Take it easy. It's ESPN.
How are the Badgers better than us in recruiting. Proof again that we are struggling with our recruiting.

It's ESPN, and we haven't filled out our class yet. Calm down, sweetie.
First of all, I don't believe this counts the TJ Taylor transfer.
Second, we still have one scholarship available.
We are recruiting better than we have in years.

Really? I don't think you'll find many badger fans that understand recruiting that would make that argument.
Crean's class is insane (and very balanced). I live in Indy and have had a chance to see all his recruits play (love their pg, and not just because his name is Yogi). If Gary Harris commits to IU, that class will go down as one of the best classes in a long, long time. I moved down here from Chicago a few years ago, and continue to be amazed at the talent in this state.
God knows once Coach Cal comes in and nails down 4 of the Top 10 recruits, these rankings will change.

Because they have one guy rated higher than our highest guy. Their entire class is Sam Dekker. Honestly, it's hard to say how a guy ranked around 35 is better than getting a guy ranked around 65 and a guy ranked around 110, not to mention TJ Taylor, but that's ESPN...

It does count TJ, but it counts him as a 40 rating rather than the 94 ESPN ranked him as coming out of Denison. If you added TJ based on his HS ranking our class would be about on par with #12 Purdue. If TJ has a season comparable to what Crowder had coming out of Howard, he'll probably get a score more in line with what he deserves (go back to our 2010 class, Crowder was ranked a 94 after his NJCAA POY season).
Oh that's right. Thanks Brew. I forgot that ESPN believes that transfers have suddenly lost their ability to play basketball.

Agreed.
We all know that success is determined by ESPN recruiting rankings and pre-season scrimmages.

Yeah, Sweet Sixteen appearance, made NCAA tournament multiple years in a row now, had a top 15-25 recruiting classes recently...we're really "struggling".
Calm down.

Still too early to be concerned with rankings and as others have said, it is ESPN.
Many/most of the top players are still on the board. UK, UNC, KU, and Duke are nowhere near being finished with their classes. This ranking will change many times over the next six months.

Yeah, the ESPN profiles are nice because they do give a good snapshot of the player, but otherwise, they're pretty useless. I saw today that Pierre Jackson, a Baylor JUCO commit, is still graded a 40. He was the NJCAA Player of the Year and the top rated JUCO recruit by JUCOJunction. DJO was a 40, pretty sure Butler was too, and we've seen how that turns out.
Anyone ESPN hasn't seen recently is apparently crap, I just think it's funny that a guy like TJ goes from a 94 after his senior year of HS to a 40 after transferring from Oklahoma to Paris JC. And people take these ratings seriously...
40 just means they did not watch him and therefore the player is not rated.

Which would be fine if they hadn't given Taylor a 94 coming out of HS. I just don't get why they don't keep the rating static from HS to JUCO. They saw him then and there's no reason he'd be worse now. If they watch him again now and feel his rating should drop, fine, but if he was a 94 in 2010, why not keep him there in 2011?
ESPN also had Ferguson's rating drop, but that's probably because they haven't evaluated him since his commitment. ESPN is weak on recruiting coverage.

Sure there is a reason to be worse now. He did nothing at Oklahoma that would have supported his prior rating. If I remember correctly, he was injured and did not play last year, so how do they know how good he is now? The 40 no rating is appropriate at this time.
ESPN is weak with there recruiting coverage, especially considering how many analysts
they have. They rarely update there scouting reports.

But they seem to give every JUCO the same basic 40 rating.

Because you never know when a future lottery pick is going to go off in a game that means nothing, where no score was kept, and that no one is supposed to talk about, and ruin an entire season.

Yet if we were top 10 or top 5 in the ESPN rankings, how do you think we would react here? Wagering that we would be excited

Personally, I'm still excited about 29. It seems one of our major goals is to perennially be a top-25 program, and we're not far outside the top-25. I have a feeling that when recruiting services factor in TJ Taylor (who really isn't being included yet) and any other recruit Buzz can get (Mbargorba or Auguste, maybe?) we'll be ranked even better across the board.
I get what you're saying in your perpetual cynicism, but the simple truth is that we should be excited about a long wing in Ferguson, the best player in Illinois in his class in Steve Taylor, and a highly-rated and versatile guard in TJ Taylor. Sure, other schools have good players coming in as well, but I think we have a lot to be excited about, and I think that once all is said and done, our rankings will be better from all the services than they are now.
I'm really excited about 29. Especially the way Buzz is building our roster.Up and down our roster is talent and potential. Really hard to say who is going to bust out in a big way but any of these guys could suprise me. Every year it seems we get deeper with BE talent.
