Title: Why can't Crean just say something like this?
Post by: marqfan22 on March 26, 2007, 01:23:31 PM
"I would never ever leave [Louisville] to go to another college because they're my family," Pitino said.

I don't believe Pitino, but it would be nice to hhar from Crean.

probably because he doesn't believe it himself.   He's going to leave Marquette, it's just a matter of when.
Title: Crean may be all they have left at Kentucky

Because you box yourself in when you do that.  Besides, he wants to please a few on this board and leave.

;D

Seriously, if he says he's staying and he leaves...then he's Nick Saban and despised by everyone.

He has to look out for number 1, that is the nature of coaching.  He's not going to say that, plus Crean is only 41 while Plugs Pitino is mid 50's and isn't looking for another job.  Crean has opportunities and you don't shut those down by making those statements.

The dominos are starting to fall now...Arkansas likely to fire Heath today even though they got into the tournament (a joke that they did).  Arkansas is going after Gilesspie and may already have him, they're trying to cut off Kentucky at the pass.

That leaves only a few left...I still think Caliprari is the guy there, but supposedly he's said "no" in public.  I don't think it will be Izzo...Donovan...we won't know until after the tournament.  But the dominos are starting to fall.

Some of you just might get your wish.

Because he'd be lying.

As would just about anybody who professed undying loyalty to their employer.

Pitino is a liar--always has been, always will be. If the New York Knicks came calling tomorrow he'd be on the next plane.

Because he'll bolt for Michigan State as soon as Izzo decides he's done.

b/c he'd lose his leverage for a raise.

I don't think so. Pitino has been around the block a few times now. I think he and his family love living in Kentucky. I believe UL is his last stop.

So you'd rather have Crean lie to you than say nothing at all.
Too many coaches have made jackasses out of themselves - the latest being Nick Saban -  by publicly proclaiming they aren't interesting in another, only to jump ship a few days, weeks or months later.
I think Crean's simple policy of not commenting on any other openings not only makes sense, but also prevents him from being in a position where he feels it necessary to be dishonest. Because as soon as he does comment on one, he'll be expected to comment on all of them.

That's why Pitino said he'd never leave Louisville "to go to another college."    He very clearly left the door open that he might leave Louisville for the NBA.

I don't believe Pitino.

If I could draw a cartoon based on this quote, Pitino would be at the podium speaking into mics in front of an audience, and boosters would be stuffing wads of cash down his pockets from behind.

I'm pretty sure he's being taken care of. THAT'S why he wouldn't leave.

And I tried to not even use a "mafia"-like metaphor. ;)

Absolutely dead on. MU is his first stop on the train -- a train that may have many stops. You can't say something like that at his age and be taken seriously.

Also agree with 79 in that Pitino has been around the block -- twice. He's done. There's nothing left to prove in moving to a different stop so why not just stay at the Ville and win a National Title.
