According to tweets from Dave Telep and Jeff Goodman.
Rough couple of days for MU recruiting.
Beat me to the punch...I wasn't too bummed about not getting Dunn I understood why he wouldn't wanna come with that competition for playing time, but Cleare not coming is extremely disappointing.
Gut-punch. I really feel the recent pursuits of Ray Lee and Blaise Mbargorba indicate Buzz expected this. Haven't heard anything on Auguste lately, either, though I imagine us getting Steve Taylor won't help us in recruiting another PF type player.
MU not even mentioned in the Scout.com article:
QuoteCleare was actually a top target of Head Coach Mark Turgeon from his time at Texas A&M, and he continued that recruitment upon taking the job at Maryland. Also assistant Bino Ranson was recruiting Cleare to Maryland under the old staff, and developed a strong relationship that led to the pledge.
"He always has liked Maryland," said Harvey of his star's commitment. "When Gary Williams was there he knew Coach Williams could really develop talent, and then he left. At the time when he left the two schools Shaq really liked were Texas A&M and Maryland."
Harvey continued, "When Coach Turgeon went to Maryland that just made the transition easier, and they continued to recruit him hard."
Other articles mention Arizona, Baylor and Miami as well but no MU. is there something I missed saying we were on his short list?

We always seem to be left out of the post-commit lists. I haven't seen any mention of Marquette on any of the recent Kris Dunn stories either. At this point, who cares? We didn't get him, better to start hoping for Mbargorba, Auguste, or Lee than worrying about what place we came in for Cleare or Dunn.
This is like my dad at a cocktail party....same story every time. What gives?
We better start concentrating on JCs

Well, there are hundreds of options and few available spaces. I suspect we would hear more "no's" than "yes's".
But, how does Steve Taylor fit into the "same story every time" mold?

Hopefully you meant to use teal ...
Cmon guys...we went through this last year too. More schools are turned down than are accepted. We have a quality top 100 guy, one just out of the top 100, and a transfer who was in the 100 out of HS. Buzz is on a couple of similar types, and it is only August. We still have this fall and the spring signing period to go.

+1
It sucks to lose out on guys we thought we had a chance with, but Taylor, Taylor and Ferguson isn't just a good sounding name for a law firm, it's a solid recruiting class as well. I'm guessing Buzz will find one more, be it Mborgarba, Auguste, Lee, or someone else we aren't aware of yet. Considering Davante Gardner went from someone no one had heard of to one of the players we are most excited for in the coming years since last Spring, I have faith in our staff. Everyone loses more than they win, let's try to move on and focus on another win.
Lets go International!
Lost another guy. So be it.
Maryland gets a 7 footer for 2011 today (what luck!). Allegedly a potential lottery pick, but I wonder how Cleare feels?

This guy is playing this season. He also has perimeter skills so he could definitely play alongside Cleare if he stays next year.

What about McGary then? Heard he is/was a strong lean too? That is some frontline...the very late commit right as school starts after Cleare verbal was a little surprising to me. I am sure it was Clearinghouse related. The Terps will be loaded next year.

This Ukranian kid isn't cleared yet. They've been working out it for awhile it seems and they dont expect any issues, maybe a couple game suspension to start the year or something. McGary is a tough battle, no one knows where hes going or leaning. But still hes a stud and wont be scared off by anyone really. We literally had no one of value in our frontcourt and were looking at 3-4 bigs in the 2012 class. So now with the Ukraine kid and Cleare we still will bring on one more big at least.

McGary is a UNC lean. I would count us out.

fyi--DMJT is a Maryland fan, so he was talking Terps for McGary when he said "us".
