Title: Omissions from the 2006-07 AP All-America Team
Post by: 77ncaachamps on March 26, 2007, 01:04:40 PM
DJ made honorable mention.

I'm assuming Jerel didn't make it because of his injury. But should he have been penalized for that? He had a great season.

I think Jerel would have been a lock had MU enjoyed a better finish, in spite of injury.

Jeff Green on the third team is a huge snub.

The Big East was completely overlooked this season -- glad to see that GU plowed UNC last night to exact some revenge.

I love Green, but in order to say that, you have to identify the guy or guys that should be removed from the first or second team. Not sure I can do that.

how about greg oden.  sorry, but i never saw him put that team on his back and lead them to a victory.  add in the fact that he missed 1/4 of their regular season, and i'm not sure he should be an all-american.  is he a great player?  absolutely.  but i still question whether he did enough to be a first team all-american.

the balance on GU's team hurts Green's chances for this kind of recognition. 14 and 6 seems pedestrian until you watch him play.

green is way underrated...oden is not over rated either..oden doesnt "carry teams" but he can more or less "dominate" an entire game defensively.....not to mention his "off hand" is better than 90% of big mens natural shooting hand..still needs to get stronger..but unbelievable none the less..i used to watch him all the time when he was in h.s. no1 was a bigger oden hater than i..cant deny the kid anymore..on mcneal..i cant stress this enough.. there is no way you can make any list of all americans turning the ball over 120 times and missing 3 games..he most certainly has the tools to be an all american..but the t.o.'s have to come down id say to at least 80 which is a long hill to climb

a little background on oden..lived in t. haute indiana and transfered to a public school in indy 8th grade year..mike conley grew up in arkansas and transferred to the same indianapolis school as oden 8th grade year as well..lived in different states but have been playing aau together before they were 10..indiana h.s has only had 9 true 7footers in last 20-25 yrs..7 of them have been at same school as oden..h.s. where oden left..u guessed it..had a 7 footer tranfer in as an 8th grader in odens junior year..this years team had like 4-5 tranfers from 8th grade on up..recruiting is fine if your a private school but not public schools..

as u can see i had problems with the character of people surrounding oden and maybe even quuestioning him as well..he says all the right things but whats he really thinking..after watching him this yr i have to give his credit as a basketball p[layer..hes as good as i thught hed be 3 years down the road

Greg Oden should thank ESPN for that award... for although I love college basketball more than anything in the world (openingday of baseball a close second)...I couldnt stand the attention he got on a loaded team, I always thought Conley was the leader of that team from the beginning, however finally ESPN jumped on his bandwagon....  Fazekas not getting first team is a shame, great player, worked so hard, obviously the leader of his team, he deserved it over Oden and Tucker in my opinion.
