Title: Jon Rothstein Big East Preview
Post by: brewcity77 on August 15, 2011, 02:12:20 PM
Saw this article: Big East Notebook (http://www.msg.com/blogs/jon-rothstein/big-east-notebook-pre-season-rankings-questions-1.71744)

I love what he says about DJO...

Quote from: Jon Rothstein3. WILL PEOPLE FINALLY START TO APPRECIATE DARIUS JOHNSON-ODOM?

We certainly hope so. The lack of exposure and publicity surrounding "DJO" the past few seasons hasn't been an oversight, it's been an insult. After averaging in double figures in the last two seasons, Odom seems ready to a monster swan song with the Golden Eagles.

Joining him in the back court will be burgeoning floor general Junior Cadougan as well as sophomore Vander Blue. With two consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament including a berth in last year's Sweet 16, look for Milwaukee's favorite southpaw to ensure a third straight trip to the field of 68 for Buzz Williams and Marquette.

Man...can't wait until the season starts ;D

He talks up DJO a bunch but then omits him from his All-Big East team. What's up with that?

He also stated that DJO will lead MU to their third straight NCAA appearance.

So we did not make the tourney in 2008?  He mist be confusing us with the Marquette Tigers

I was a bit confused as well because at first I thought he was referring to DJO leading MU to three straight tourneys but his phrasing was terrible.

"With two consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament including a berth in last year's Sweet 16, look for Milwaukee's favorite southpaw to ensure a third straight trip to the field of 68 for Buzz Williams and Marquette."

He conditioned that as 3 under Buzz.

He said "to ensure a third straight trip...for Buzz Williams." (future tense)

If they make the tourney this year, it will be Buzz's fourth trip...not his third.

Also great to see him mention Junior Cadougan and Jamil Wilson

...but only 3rd with DJO.  He is right.  This was about DJO and not Buzz.  DJO was not there for Buzz's first NCAA Tournament appearance.

The lack of publicity surrounding DJO last year was due to his dissapointing 3 pt shooting percentage, primarily when compared to the prior year. Don't really consider it insult....nonetheless I am hoping for big things from him this year.
