Heh...that's funny.  Oh by the way Dimes, here is what he says on Dekker:

"Dekker is one of the toughest guys I've seen in this class. Everything he does translates at Wisconsin. He's like a Badger recruit on steroids. He's everything they want but better than what they've been getting. He played the entire NBA Camp with a rib out of place. He has a shot to be a McD's All-American and future Big Ten POY. He looks like a winner."

I guess he isn't aware of the limitations of Scandinavian dairy farmers from "northern" Wisconsin either...

You guys can say all you want about these guys making their bones on the AAu circuit.  I will agree that is where the rankings come from.

However, as I stated before scores of top 100 type kids from the hinterland have failed miserably and at an amazingly high rate.  Maybe its because the other 11 months of the year they are playing junior high caliber competiton.  i dont know but Okey, Butch, Mader, Steinsma, and on and on "made their names" on the AAu circuit too.

We can agree to disagree, but I tend to beleive what has happened before will happen again.

There are exceptions to every rule. Maybe Dekker will will be the next Larry Bird. But like Dimes said, the percentage of players from rural Wisconsin who meet or exceed their rankings is underwhelming. The odds favor the guy from Chicago Simeon.

I like what I know about Taylor, but he could bust also.  Who knows?

I notice Dimes never mentions Mike Wilkinson.  One of the very few Badgers I wanted to see in Blue/Gold.

I would have loved to have Butch in an MU uniform too.  Yeah he didn't live up to his ranking, but he certainly was a very good player.

Butch was on two teams that won 30+ games. I would not called him a bust. The only argument would be is whether he would of made the NBA, if he had picked another school.

I think the point is for all this talk of Bo being such an epic developer of talent, he took a top 5-10 recruit and while he became a good player, he was never contending for B10 POY.  People just get sick of the rhetoric that going to Marquette you are not going to become a great player whereas if you went to UW, B Ois going to make you some superstar.

Bo Ryan has a fantastic track record of getting the most out of lesser players and implementing them well into his system.   I think his record with highly touted recruits is a bit more murky.  Krabbenhoft, Davis, Butch, good players that worked well for Wisconsin, but none were seriously sniffing the NBA (Butch is debateable, but he never even played a game for the Nuggets).

I'll add Nankivil as well.

Definitely, especially after watching him play with Otule and Cadougan this past summer. Nankivil would have been a great fit at MU.

Couldn't hold a candle to Willie Wampum!

I would hate to have that mascot and then be sued by Iowa for mascot infringement 9 years from now.
