Title: Ray Lee: 2012 PG
Post by: GGGG on August 09, 2011, 07:46:06 AM
We apparently have just offered him.  From Romulus, MI, he currently plays at Huntington Prep.

I'm getting the impression that Buzz really wants a PG out of this class, and not sure if Dunn has eliminated us by this point.

I smell oversigning ahead.

Yeah, I think you are right.  I know this is controversial.  On the one hand, Buzz goes through the ringer like the Newbill situation.  On the other, we could end up shorthanded like we are this year.  But let's face it, there is a lot that can happen between now and then.  Will all the verbals sign their LOI come November?  Will TJ Taylor go through with his transfer?  Will there be transfers out of the program like there has been after every season under Buzz?

And it is only August.  And we still have to deal with the late signing period that has brought us the likes of Gardner and Mayo...and when Jucos like Butler and Crowder came on board.

I honestly have this sinking sensation that we may never see Ferguson in uniform...I feel like his recruitment was very under the radar, his committment had little hype, he's garnered less post-committment attention than previous recruits, and by the most recent accounts he struggled last year and slid down the rankings some.

There is nothing to support this...just a thought I had...

His recruitment was no more under the radar than a bunch of Buzz's other recruitments have been.  His commitment had little hype because it occured in January.  I have no reason to believe he won't be in an MU uniform.  As for slipping down the rankings some, I don't think Buzz & Co spend a great deal of time worried about how Rivals or ESPN ranks someone.

I would be very upset if we never see Ferguson in a Marquette uniform. I don't know anything about him as a person as far as his work ethic or other things like that but when you look at his physical attributes he could be a VERY effective player. 6'3'' with something like a 6'10'' wingspan could be a menace on defense as well as deadly driving through the lane... I can't wait until he gets here.

Obviously...and, again, my "gut feeling" says nothing about the kid or his game...like I said, its just something I've wondered about considering the number of quality players still available for '12 that we are supposedly involved with...

Ferguson is a elite athlete in the mode of Dwayne Wade, He is still developing as a player and plays on Boo Williams which has a all star type team out east.  Hard for him to shine when you are playing with 2 top 20 player's and a host of other HM recruits.

This paragraph has me sold on Ray:

"He has the extra gear in his game ala BJ Young from the Class of 2011. Lee is the lethal combination of athleticism and speed. One quick move and he's got his shoulders by you. Lee doesn't stop until he gets to the rim where he's a good finisher. Pulls it from the perimeter but that's really his second option. Many will see him as a speed guy who can be a different look at the lead guard. First and foremost, he's a scorer."

And when your 6'3" PG can dunk it...who needs Junior to do it? ;)
Just imagine him on the breakaway!

I'd guess this is our Kris Dunn backup plan.

Still, sounds like a nice little player. I think Buzz is doing a great job of identifying guys that will fit in, and considering his track record of success, I'm confident he'll find guys that work and excel, even if they weren't the first guy we were focused in on.

This is an article from a few days ago about Dunn.... Looks like some of the big boys want a crack at him. Mentioned Kentucky is now interested.
