Ehh...  I am glad that Rushin mentions MU in his articles, but why does he have to bring up the same old cliches to describe the city?  Beer...sausage casing...Harley-Davidson

I live in Chicago, and people all over the world (I heard it in Italy) still refer to Chicago as the home of Al Capone and Michael Jordan. While I understand that those cliches are overused (hence they are labeled cliche), it could be much worse.

That was a nice article. As an outsider coming to Milwaukee I could not have imagined a more welcoming city. I enjoyed the hell out of my 4 years there and now barley need an excuse to come back. Although Milwaukee is considered a smaller major city, there is still so much that the city has to offer that I have not experienced. I guess that the corner of the bar at Angelo's was too enticing.

Ugh agreed. Man vs. Food had a Milwaukee episode that aired last night, and it was beer, sausage, Laverne and Shirley. So frustrating.

The city is getting younger and more vibrant, and getting a lot more positive press, even from overseas- http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2011/jul/25/usa-city-breaks. Going back to the old cliches is just lazy.

I agree, its lazy, and the city really has much more to offer.

Plus, they just go to the places that give them the most money.

Red Rock Saloon for the eating challenge.  The episode just aired on Wednesday night.  Richman also went to Benji's in shorewood and one other place that I can't remember.

You're asking people to toss out 50 years worth of conceptions and legacy because Milwaukee has had 5-10 years of revival.  I understand, but its not fair to criticize people for thinking of Milwaukee the same way people have for years just cause they don't know there are some good new restaurants in the Third Ward or haven't been to the Art Museum.

The professional baseball, called the Brewers, team plays at Miller Park, in a stadium named for a beer maker that is arguably the city's most notable business except for Harley and what Milwaukee was known for over the course of 100 years.  What is at that stadium for entertainment?  Sausage races.  I mean come on people.  Its not that Milwaukee does nothing else, the show is about featuring what a city does better than other cities.

Growing up in Milwaukee for 22 years, it took moving to Chicago to gain perspective and appreciation for the city, but despite pockets of awesome development, Milwaukee is still Milwaukee and thats not a bad thing.

Do you think people in NYC would get pissed if instead of some of the cutting edge restaurants there, they featured Grimaldis?
