Title: Jayvaughn Pinkston Cleared to Play
Post by: brewcity77 on July 28, 2011, 10:01:03 PM
According to Andy Katz (http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/blog/_/name/katz_andy/id/6811738/news-notes-country), Villanova swingman and former Marquette recruiting target Jayvaughn Pinkston will be eligible to play in 2011-12. Pinkston sat out the entire 2010-11 season due to an assault charge.

This definitely alters the outlook for our 2011-12 schedule. With Villanova as a mirror opponent, they just got a bit tougher, especially in what is expected by many to be a down year after losing the Corey's and Antonio Pena. Pinkston can score, rebound, and adds some grit to their team. Not sure how ready he'll be, but having spent a year on campus, he'll probably come in closer to sophomore expectations in terms of body development.

Here's the Katz quote on Pinkston:

Quote from: Andy KatzVillanova coach Jay Wright said JayVaughn Pinkston has been cleared by the school to play for the Wildcats this season. Pinkston was not allowed to play last season due to an assault charge. He was expected to have a major impact on last season's team prior to the incident. The Wildcats are prepping for a trip to Amsterdam, where they will play a few national teams. Wright said the Wildcats will be much different than any squad he's coached in recent years, with the team centered more around big men rather than being guard-oriented.

I really hope we sweep them this year...won't be easy, but they just seem to be a constant thorn in our side.

No worries Brew.  Davante Gardner will neutralize him.   ;D

See the difference it makes in PR, if you actually suspend players.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the only charge against any MU player the Vander Blue assault outside the dog house?  While you could argue he should be suspended for that, hat's not even the event that's kicking up all this dust in regards to our PR department.

And that wasn't even a criminal charge.  Big difference here!

Like you have any clue.

I have no idea of the details of went on with a few of the MU players last year, but just as I wouldn't want Buzz to not suspend a kid who deserves it; I also wouldn't want him to suspend a kid for PR purposes who didn't deserve it.  So until you know the details of the situations, I'm thinking you have no right to judge.

what?  if you suspend the playa then all is good?  nothing more to see here?  i don't believe that has anything to do with it.  it's what's been said and  moving forward, action, walking the walk will tell.  if i remember correctly, pac-man jones was suspended for his actions and a lot of good that has done-just sayin-

I honestly do not think Pinkston is that good. Seems like a PF's game with the size of a SF. Undersized and not quick enough or tough enough based on the few times I've seen him play.
